Before his arrest, the teen made a post on Facebook saying the police were after him because he shot a man.
I don't see any way that could have backfired.

Definitely some irony considering your user name.

As reprehensible as this is, I believe that everyone deserves a good defence.

Yeah, that statement is sure to generate a ton of sympathy for his client.

It's often the same lawyer that defends the worst of the worst...he has helped people get away with murder. Guy comes of as a slime ball in every interview.

I was simply asking how he sleeps at night.

Defending someone is one thing (mental state, family life, ect.) But to try and get obviously guilty clients off based on technicalities is something I could never do.

Lol. Apparently his name is, after an old 81 Monte Carlo.

I would’ve stuck with the 1%er.

Everyone is entitled to a vigorous legal defense. Without it we're a banana republic.

If we're going to punish people lets make sure its fair, proper and certain.

I guess the line by Durr about him spending his 18th birthday in jail struck a wrong cord with me. Hopefully the judge gives this thug a piece of birthday cake and then sends him up the river for the maximum time possible.

Am I reading it wrong? The quote to me reads that his Grandma was upset.

Seems no different than any other family member interview that goes along the lines of "oh he's really a good kid", etc.

Clearly this kid should have told the court he was listening to the devil and that he thought the world was about to end

Do you think a person can just fake a mental illness on a whim to get out of responsibility for a criminal act, as if it’s “One Flew Over the ####oos Nest” or “The Dream Team”?

No. But someone with privileged access to medical experts certainly has a better chance at the story than an indigenous kid living in Morley.

I read it the same.

Did not sound like a call for any sort of sympathy, but just general disappointment at the situation, which makes perfect sense.

Does sentencing take 4 months normally? Or for them to produce this report for a lenient sentence?

https://calgarysun.com/news/local-ne...est-of-calgary

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 10 and in the interim, defence counsel Balfour Der has asked a report be prepared on his 17-year-old client’s Indigenous background.
