Shouldn't Lucic have a 2nd assist on the Ryan goal?

It was an own-goal by the Wings. They usually only give credit for the goal to the last player to touch the puck and no assists (unless it's the Oilers and they want to pad McDavid's stats).

No assists on own goals.

That all said, it was a pretty big contribution by Lucic to the chaos that made the Wing swipe the puck into his net.

Lucic had the fourth-highest Game Score of any Flame last night:

https://hockeystatcards.com/single-game-card/8104

1. Derek Ryan: 4.36
2. Mark Giordano: 3.82
3. Sam Bennett: 3.69
4. Milan Lucic: 2.77
5. TJ Brodie: 2.58

Huge night for that line, all three of them had sterling xGF and xGA numbers too (plus all contributed on the scoresheet). Hope we see them together more.

Not mentioned a lot but that might also have been Gio's best game of the year.

Looks like more of a dirty pitchfork than a slewfoot technically, but clearly what set Lindholm off.
Looks like a slewfoot to me (as have other looks).

The other thing that hasn't been mentioned so far is the cross-check that Helm administered. It started with the slewfoot, then Lindholm approached Helm to even the score. But when he moved in to give Helm a shoulder, Helm got Lindholm with a cross-check to the side or ribs. To me, that was where Lindholm lost it and then threw the elbow as Helm went by again.

Then Helm lost it from the elbow, and came back with the two-hander.

It was clearly a sequence of escalating events. But suggesting that Lindlholm was mostly to blame, due to the elbow, does not accurately reflect that sequence of events, IMO.

Really pleased with an almost complete 60 minute effort.

Is anyone really suggesting that Neal's goal scoring and the Oilers wins will continua at this pace? I have yet to see even the most ardent Oiler fan claim this.

The wins are fact. The goals are fact. It's unlikely Lucic reaches 8 goals this year but we'll see.

Still, Lucic for the James Neal of last year is a good trade for the Flames. But I guess for me, until I know why the Flames felt that there was no way Neal could rebound and return to the club this year I will never really be able to assess this trade. There are a lot of assumptions and innuendo being floated so maybe some people know more than I do.

Im wrong and thankfully i am.

This team is still the best in the west. We will have our ups and downs but we will be making the playoffs easily.

Lets hope we learn from last year and do the exact opposite
You're probably now over reacting to the last couple games

But the most basic assumption is a safe one isn't it? Neal wouldn't have gotten number one powerplay time, nor a guaranteed spot in the top six.

Flames depth makes that a pretty safe bet.

If you agree with that, then it would be highly unlikely that he bounces back (production), and that is literally all he adds.

If you listen to Neal's interviews since the trade, it sure sounds like he wanted out. Sounds like a guy who has no accountability and is blaming everything on Peters and the coaching staff for not gifting him the RW spot with Gaudreau.

Nevermind what he said, just look at how he played and responded last year. Just didn't give a damn when he didn't get what he wanted.

Good on him for being motivated this year, but he should have showed some more professionalism last year and worked his butt of to get into the good graces of the coaching staff. Instead he sulked and didn't give much effort at all.

Is that the type of guy you want to keep in the locker room?

TOI for Ryan, Bennet and Lucic last night were 17:22, 17:13 and 15:09 respectively. That's pretty impressive to see the third line with those kinds of minutes on the way to a fairly dominant victory.

Its good bench management. Its a long season, a good coach rides his bottom 6 when they are hot, to allow the top 6 to rest for when its their turn to carry the load again.
