I thought Elliott played surprisingly well. One of those regular season sleepers for him where he holds a reasonable stat line but still loses. It's like his career signature move

There are teams you can certainly expect to make it. Teams like Washington, Carolina, and Nashville were undeniably impressive last season and have begun this season playing very well and without any major subtractions

What? The Oilers are a guaranteed playoff team at the beginning of EVERY season.

Looks like Rittich was solid — a nice bounce back following the Vegas game.
As for the win, I think we’ll see more low scoring games this year based on this team’s identity. Our bottom 9 are more defensively oriented (save for Chucky) and our blue line is solid. Don’t need to win 6-5 (like last year against the Flyers at home) when you can have a tidy 2-1 or 3-1 final.

Strong game by the flames all around.
Top line looked great, though Gaudreau made some questionable plays late, instead of keeping the puck deep. Still, all 3 players were buzzing, especially liked lindholms game. Glad he got the EN, he deserved something tonight.
3M line was great, Frolik played exceptionally well. Deserving of a star for sure.
Bottom lines each had their moments. Jankowski's best game of the year. Also, thought Bennett made some nice plays.
D pairings all played very strong. Loved Kylington digging his shoulder in to separate the man and the puck in the 3rd. He's an NHL regular, will only get better as he gets more export to this level of play.
Rittich was strong all night. He really needs to work on his puck handling, and be less aggressive in his attempts at playing the puck. He's lucky to not have any mishaps tonight.
Hope they can string some more games together like this and build some confidence up again.

Were the Blues “impressive” the first 3 months of last season? What were your predictions for them on January 1.....how about TB?
High expectations and big disappointments are hard to predict in today’s NHL.

You're missing my point -- perhaps I should have been more clear. All I'm saying is this:
a) These teams have had recent success
b) These teams are currently playing well
Therefore, these are likely going to be the more difficult matchups on the schedule. I'm not trying to say anything more precise than that.
My post would have had the same meaning if I replaced the words "almost guaranteed playoff teams" with "hot teams."

Has there been one dirty hit against the Flames since game one? 7 Games in and I can't think of anyone running around against the Flames.
Watching the Wings/Canucks game get outta hand now, Lucic could shut things down pretty quick

And my point is that there are no easy games in the NHL.

Noticing a big improvement in his game this year, but I still wish he would hit more.
