Oh and I forgot to mention, if you are attending a game at SAP center with your better half, make sure they leave their purse at home. They don't allow any handbags bigger than 5"x8" into the rink. You have to pay $5 to check it and they give you a 12" square clear plastic bag to bring into the arena.

Pretty solid effort honestly considering the Flames schedule Vs. the Sharks sitting at home since Thursday

Previous blown games make it worse though...Flames have played 6 games and 4 have them have been on the road in tough buildings

that being said 2 of 6 isn't good enough

I know right? Especially when beers were $14usd

In all honesty I was shocked at how strict they were. There was a couple behind us in the bag check line with what looked like a ladies wallet on a strap they wouldn't let in.

If he’d known that DeSmith would have been available for free at less than half the cap hit, wonder if Treliving would have passed on Talbot.

Man... man man man.

Frolik
Ryan
Bennett
Jankowski
Mangiapane

These are the Flames' 6-10 forwards.

These five guys collectively averaged 17 goals per 82 games last year. Averaged! And they're all depth guys...

The NHL is a really good league but it's not that good. The Flames' depth is fine. They've played a few bad games to start the year but there is still plenty of reason for hope.

Secondary scoring continues to be completely, and I mean completely, non-existent. It is the story behind he Flames lack of success right now. Compete, I feel, has been there for the most part, but we just don't have the horses outside of the top line plus Tkachuk to be a reliable threat every night.

Talbot has had one start after sitting for over 2 weeks and was decent...his modest one year deal doesn't seem like much of an issue

Goodness know Jankowski isn’t pushing him Bennett has much bigger issues in general then worrying about switching positions, can’t pull Lindholm off the top line, and Ryan is fine as 3c or 4c, but shouldn’t be counted on for much more.

It would look as a bit of a desperate act, but really, Jankowski and Frolik wouldn’t be on this team right now if BT had his plans go through, so he wasn’t apsatisifed then and can’t be satisfied now, and imo will not be quite so patient this season as he was last, to make a move like Boyle or Williams.
Is the leverage on a trade any better now with the team floundering out of gate than it was in the off-season?

To me the question is whether there is too much money tied up in bottom 6 UFA signings, when you’d like those guys to be cheaper options, preferably homegrown.

As you say, everything sucks right now. But it is puzzling how a team with so many good contracts at the top end seem to be so hamstrung with the cap.

It’s tiring to lament the trades that didn’t happen but man would the forward group look better. With the team’s cap situation, as well as other team’s situations, in season trades are going to be real difficult to pull off.

Jeez. It’s the first few games of the season. Edmonton is bloody well 5-0

What you have seen so far is not reflective of what you will have seen by games 10, 20, 40

Hahaha! Wow.

There are 154 players who have played NHL games this season and have not recorded a single point.

Yes, the team is struggling right now, but opinions like this are way, WAY over the top.

Frolik- no trade value
Ryan- negative trade value
Bennett- could get possibly a 3rd
Jankowski- would clear waivers
Mangiapane- probably the most value of what you listed because he’s unproven and has room to grow.

It’s not about the points. I’ve also never been a “the sky is falling” guy either. What I see is an absolute total lack of effort all around. We have a bottom six full of tweeners that last seasons success allowed us to overlook. and is becoming pretty apparent. You guys can paint it however you want to feel better about it. But the fact is we’re not good enough after our top 5 players. If the top line isn’t hot we lose. It’s not something that can be argued or even has a small sample size to be an anomaly. Major stretches last season. Our entire first round against Colorado and the whole start of this season...

While there is a lot of hyperbole being thrown around, the homers that dominate this board have also made a hyperbolic myth that the bottom 6 of the Flames is good, when it Is average at best. 3 of the 6 don’t even belong on NHL rosters in Lucic, Jankowski and Reider. Bennett is a very average 3rd liner, Ryan is a good one but we’re paying a lot for him, and Frolik is a guy whose regressing fast. I like Czarnik but they don’t seem to want to commit to making him a regular.

They also pay an absolute metric #### ton for that privilege. I really can’t see this team making the next step with this merry band of morons running it.
