We’d be gloating over Oiler fans if Lucic had 7 goals and the Flames were undefeated. I think you just have to accept it for what it is.

Well, some of us maybe. I'd be laughing at the hilarity, but by no means would I assume it was in any way sustainable or reflective of who he is as a player.

Both options are wins in comparison to the absolute boat anchor Lucic is. What a ridiculous and frankly dishonest assessment of what he said. Bunch of labradors in flames jerseys here

Bitter rivals should never, ever, do business together.

The Real Heal Neal seems like a primadonna whiner in retrospect. Good riddance and I hope he gets the herps from McJesus.

Do you think anyone from CP would be dumb enough after four games to write a "Milan Lucic goal song" that celebrates his tremendous skating, breakaway speed, and his legendary work-ethic? I seriously doubt it.

But really... so what? Is their laughter somehow meaningful? These are the same group that year after year get so excited during the pre-season FFS. Why should anyone care if they laugh?
This is the other thing I notice. Every year, we see the stages of the Oiler fan. But we also see some Flames' fans fall into some sort of weird Stockholm syndrome. This latter group also buys into the Oiler hype and start fussing and fretting about how good they have become.

If Lucic had 7 goals, including a 4 goal game? Just about anything would be possible.

Just a snippet from a Travis Yost article on TSN. I think it echos what quite a few Flame fans feel.
As for Lucic, he’s had some fights and some penalty minutes and little else to show for it. I appreciate that Calgary believes they need toughness in the lineup and that Lucic brings an element they were sorely missing in prior years. But I also can’t ignore the fact that their provincial rival said the same thing for years, right up until the point where they recognized that the deficiencies in Lucic’s game far outpaced whatever intangibles he might bring to a team’s bottom six.
No one should judge the trade quite yet – if not because of the fact that it’s early, then because the trade wasn’t a one-for-one swap either. Calgary did pick up a conditional third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, and that’s not insignificant.
But you do wonder, even just a few games in, if Calgary would like a mulligan here.#

Calgary for sure would like a mulligan - on signing Neal.
That was the mistake.

Sure...but then trading that mistake for Lucic made the first mistake MUCH worse.
So yeah, a mulligan on the trade is as appropriate.

Trading him for Lucic was also a mistake. No ifs ands or buts.
The Flames compounded their mistake of signing neal by committing long term to a 5 million dollar 4th liner.

Yup. The signing was bad enough. Moving him for Lucic just compounds the mistake. Nothing we can do about it but it chaps the hide.

I get the feeling that Neal would've been used as a 4th liner in Calgary too

Cherry on coaches corner called out the Flames. Said that they didn't treat Neal like the star he is.
Different players need to be handled differently.

They walked into NYI, NJ and NYR and came out with 6 pts.
The good teams in the west would be happy with 3-4 pts on that road trip.

Oh god, and all the other teams that have given him away?
All the piling on is ridiculous...Neal is not a star

Lol, it's never easy to sweep a road trip but come on....that is an easy trip
One game the home team was even on a b2b

If the Flames had bought out Neal, the Oilers would still have lucic, the Flames would have cap space and Neal woulddn't be a distraction.
Instead, the Flames have no cap space, the Oilers get out from under Lucic and Neal is still a distraction even though he's not even on the team anymore.
Initially I wanted to see the merit in the trade as well, dufus for dufus yadda yadda yadda, but the more I thought about it, the more it became clear to me that this was a really, really bad decision by Flames management.

I just wish the team would have at least given Neal sometime this year to prove last year was an anomaly. It was a horrid decision by Treliving to take Lucic's contract off our biggest and most hated rivals.
