My response was simply to you referring to tree planting initiative as "copping" out. I'm not here to argue it's a magical solution, but can/should be part of the solution.

The world has room for more forests.

Replacing fossil fuels as our primary source for energy production will take much longer (as I said, I believe a century or more) than a lot of people would like. While that transition is happening, why not also implement green house gas removal initiatives?

I think we are about 5 years away from a tipping point from fossil fuels to some combination of renewables - at least in the developed world.

If by tipping point, you mean over 50% of our energy will be generated by renewables, I'm not sure how that's physically possible within a 5 year window. But, I'm not going to try and prove my opinion, or disprove yours, with a bunch of links. If it happens in 5 years, I'll be very impressed.

Has any country got there yet? I know in Germany maybe once they hit it one day, but that was a blip. Does any major country sustain 50% over a 24 hour period?

It depends what you mean by tipping point. Of new power added the majority is renewable
https://www.irena.org/newsroom/press...Power-Capacity
(Note source is somewhat biased)

I think a question with those stats is delivered power vs installed power but at a high level most new power coming online is renewable. How quickly that starts to show up in total energy is more of a question given how much power is out there.

Sorry, am I missing something here? Lots of countries have 50%+ of their electricity produced by renewables. Canada does.

Globally we use 93 million barrels of oil per day which is equivalent to 1,581,000,000,000,000 watts of energy. Currently 4% of all energy consumption comes from renewable sources.

We have a long way to go.

that's what the people in the future think at first, but its due to some wacky time travel looping stuff - the 12 monkeys just released a bunch of animals around the time the virus spread. its a crazy scientist who is acting alone who pulls the trigger so to speak

this post has nothing to do with climate change but i wanted to comment on a great movie

I was kidding, but I am curious what you saw in that article that was anything but hyperbolic garbage? Was there any insight provided by this blathering of a bitter Albertan whose commute was disturbed by a very small group of protesters? Protesters that this author (that's a strong word) now claims are the leaders on a global issue. Where was the content that was worthy of sharing and would spurn on actual discussion about solutions we should be pursuing? This is what you demand, so where's the beef in this beef?

If that's what you got from the article, that's on you. I see the political climate changing rapidly, and changing in ways that aren't good. Schools are churning out millions of kids that honestly believe that the world will end in a few years if we don't all stop all activity immediately.

That, in itself, isn't that big of a deal. But what is a big deal, and big concern, is how the media, and society is reacting to it.

Reasonable discussion is being aggressively replaced with bleating. Anyone that says anything that isn't currently vogue gets "SCIENCE" as a response. That is not what science is.

And sadly, you KNOW that. Yet you choose to put it aside and join the bleating whenever you read or hear something you don't like.
