Yep 35%
Completely matched the eye test as it does when he's at 55%
Certainly no point in throwing Bennett a bone last night. He was one of many doing nothing in the first, they switched it up and Mangiapane had an impact on getting things going. Bennett's two penalties were atrocious.
I do think the Flames have something in Mangiapane. I think he stays there. Talk about found money with a sixth round pick.

It's nice that everyone got together to say the right things about keeping the team intact but Frolik's days in Flames sweater would be over if anyone in the league had been interested.
I think it will be difficult for Frolik to win his spot back again this year, especially if Mangiapane starts to convert on some goals as well.
I'd be rolling:
Line 1
Tkachuk - Backlund - Mangiapane
Lucic - Ryan - Frolik
Bennett - Quine - Dube
|
Frolik was a tire fire for the first two games of the season, so there's a method to the madness in demoting him.
Will he rebound? He certainly has the career to suggest he will. But I agree he really shouldn't even be here.

Hockey is fun. Watching it is fun. Being a fan of a team is fun.
If at any point you're not having fun (or even worse, you feel like losses are triggering feelings of depression) then it's time to re-examine your relationship with hockey. It's not healthy.
I understand a lot of people use sports and fandom as an emotional outlet, which I think is great, but it's not good if it has a negative impact beyond the game. Enjoy hockey for hockey, not the boxscore.
Everyone should do themselves a favour and remind themselves once in a while that it's just a game. Having love or passion for the game is not synonymous with depression. I love hockey, but individual losses are disappointing for about 5 minutes, then you move on.

I just can't imagine being a Flames fan who still gets upset when they lose.
Winning is great but I'm basically indifferent to losing at this point.

The initial post was dumb. Yes a guy is a bit sad the next morning because his favourite team lost the night before.
So what? He doesn’t need to be told to log off all his accounts and “get a life” because he shouldn’t be so emotionally invested.

Bennett's game would probably improve if he stopped the toe drags and just tried shooting or passing.

Sometimes this team and its players just try to be too fancy. They are trying to score the highlight reel goals and making too many passes when they should just shoot the puck and crash the net.
I can understand the first line trying to be fancy, but there's no excuse for the other players. Even Tkachuk who is one of the premier power forwards in the game doesn't play a typical simple power forward game, not that i'm complaining about him.
But it would be nice to just get a few guys who just want to go up and down the wing, fire the puck on net, and then crash it for some ugly rebound goals. That is what Bennett should be doing.

TBF, the toe drags seem to come where he has no option - end of shift with no linemates. But I think he should just drive around and make a muck around the net in that case. The toe drag gets picked off and creates a rush the other way a lot.

If Ashax would've said he was "a bit sad" at the Flames losing, or ticked off etc, it wouldn't have been noteworthy. This is what he actually posted.

So yes, I reiterate. Distance yourself from the team for a stretch to gain some perspective on things.

I guess it's a tough call to make. The NHL is a young man's league and Monahan had just stepped into the NHL right out of the draft as a 20- goal scorer
Not to mention, the lower half of the Flames roster was really bad at the time, so inserting Bennett was very tempting

Bennet couldn't have gone to the AHL at 19, it was back to the OHL or stick in the NHL. Considering he scored just shy of 20 goals and 40 points, at 19, it didn't look bad.
It could just be he doesn't think the game at a high enough level to be a producer. Mangiapane looked better with Tkachuk and Backlund almost immediately, he's a smart player who uses his teammates effectively, something Sam doesn't do.

Don't know if it has been mentioned in other threads, but the story about Stamkos calling out his team, both teams seem to be following a similar path from end of last season/playoffs to start of this season. https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...ck-old-habits/

What fan of a sports team isn't upset when they lose? It's literally the definition of a fan. If you don't care if they lose I think you've already moved on from being a fan or are heading there at least.

So get over it. It’s an OT loss in game 3 of the regular season. I’ve had farts that were more depressing.

I know I’ve sure stopped caring, and my life has gotten better for it. I guess that makes me not a fan, and that’s fine.
After the team started nose diving post-ASB, I was getting upset after losses. I started questioning why I devoted so much of my free time to this thing that wasn’t bringing positivity into my life, and I cut back. I started doing other things that made me happy while the team spiraled into an entirely too familiar playoff disaster.
I’ve tried watching bits and pieces of the first few games this season and those same feelings of negativity started creeping back after a whole summer off. I’m much happier not having to worry about lazy efforts, crap officiating, players not living up to their inflated contracts, etc etc, that this team seems to battle against every single year with the same results.
It was very liberating to just admit to myself that this team, for me, was no longer worth caring about. Those of you who, like me, have started becoming ambivalent or worse when it comes to following the Flames, just pick up another hobby that interests you and follow casually if you like.
Were it not for CP, I’d be completely done following hockey at all.

My comment was only meant to be a quick quip about the absurdity of fandom. It's illogical and hilarious.
With that said, I have spent less time online and browsing forums over the last couple years, but I miss being more optimistic than I feel I am right now. It's silly that it takes a toll on me.
