This is why I'm not quick to the "Neal the Real Deal is BACK!" talk
Playing with McDavid anyone that can fog a mirror can score...5 goals and -1

Celebrated Square Root Day

On a none Neal related note. I thought the Wings were playing in other cities or something in pre-season (like a lot of teams do) but nope, they actually realized what everyone watching on TV does - Their new arena is deadly empty and the bright red seats highlighted it in embarrassing fashion.
So after only a couple season they've switched to a dark grey. It definitely does help, as your eyes tended to shift all the time to the bright empty seats all game before.

Perhaps he forced their hand, but I don’t like the knee jerk reaction from Tree. We’ve been extremely patient with players like Bennett, yet we rush out a proven vet who constantly scores 20+.
Obviously we don’t know what happened behind closed doors, and who knows, maybe he would have never worked in Calgary. I just wish a bit more patience was shown.

Its been suggested Neal and Peters did not agree with his benching in Game 5 last year, and a trade had to happen.
Neal was the worst Flame I've ever seen. I'd say rather have Lucic currently and don't care of Neal scores 50 for Edmonton. Good riddance.

On what planet would anyone want Lucic to begin with?

The trade is simply just a win win situation. Lucic was just going to continue to sulk and give zero F's had he stayed in Edmonton this year. Looks like he's more engaged this year.

So much this. For my lifetime as a flames fan the only players who come close are Drury and Friesen.

Oiler fans are acting as if any of us actually miss Neal. It’s kind of funny. We didn’t trade away a 20 goal scorer, we traded a 19 point bum who got healthy scratched in the biggest game of the year.

Meh. Neal scoring a bunch of early season PP goals seems like an ideal way for the Flames to get a third round pick.
And this team could use more picks.
All good.

It's disrespectful to say the Oilers are only one-man team, what about
A top paring defense in Klefbom-Larsson
Franchise player in Leon Draisaitl
#1 Goaltander in Talbot
Not to mention players like Lucic,Maroon,RNH, etc.

Without knowing what has happening behind closed doors, we have no idea how much patience was shown. It seems pretty obvious to me that there was a lot more going on that prompted the trade beyond Neal’s deplorable on-ice performance.

I know the Pens are beat up too, but I sure thought they'd have more than one goal so far tonight playing against that decimated Jets blueline.

No one wanted Lucic. That was how badly the Flames wanted to unload James Neal.

I know you’re not supposed to upset the applecart around here, but taking on Lucic and his train wreck of a contract is not a “win”. No matter how thick your rose colour glasses are.
That was a terrible trade. And the pill appears to be getting bigger to swallow with each passing Oiler game.
Neal had to go. But that was an awful trade.

There have been plenty of explanations for why the trade was made, including rationale positions.
You can hate the trade but boiling all those arguments down to "thick rose color glasses" is lazy.

Neal was an awful player last year. The trade was market value unfortunately.
