Good for Rittich to rattle off a handle of games to get into a rhythm of being a starter. Start again Thursday then one of the weakened games and you've got the first five of six.
Back in for the 15th and 17th then again split that weekend.

Tonight is the night for the whole team to break out offensively. I really like the look of that third line, Ryan and Mangi have undeniable chemistry. I feel Lucic is a big upgrade on Hathaway so this line has some potential.
Here's hoping Doughty drops the mitts and gets his last few teeth knocked out.

Well, especially considering that two of those goals looked like this...

I would say that is virtually guaranteed.

|
Last year Rittich did not get his first start until Game #5. I suspect that Talbot will see a deployment something like this this month: one of each of the two back-to-backs, another home game v. one of the Eastern teams, and maybe another one of either Nashville or Carolina at the end of the month. It is pretty difficult to get a 2:1 split on games that are so evenly dispersed this month.

That fourth line is the Flames version of the Expendables. One guy signed off a PTO, and two others that were traded away only to have the deals fall through.

Apparently Jack Campbell gets the start for the Kings tonight. Might make things a touch more...different?

I think Rittich getting a SO last game is another reason why Peters is starting him again. First, as a reward, secondly just to keep him in a groove. Talbot will be playing soon enough.

Campbell was really good v. the Flames last year.
He started two games, allowed one goal, and had LA's only win in the season series. He cleaned up for Jonathan Quick in the last meeting of the year between these two teams, after the Flames blitzed LA with seven goals. 133 mins; 83 shots; one goal.

Seven Things to Watch for Tonight
- Mikael Backlund is one assist from passing Lanny McDonald in all time assists as a Calgary Flame. McDonald is currently holding the 25th spot.
- David Rittich will tie Dwayne Roloson in games played for the Flames with 70.
- Matthew Tkachuk is only 3 points away from tying Mike Cammalleri for all time points as a Flame with 178. That feat would make him 49th.
- Mark Giordano is 1 point from tying Jerry Korab and becoming 82nd in points all time for defensemen in the NHL.
- Milan Lucic is two goals from amassing 200 over his career.
- Michael Frolik is 1 point from tying Dennis Wideman in Points as a Flame. They would share that the 65th rank with nearly even games played.
- Elias Lindholm is one point from tying Dean McAmmond and Andrew Cassels in points as Flame. A total of 81 will put him 102nd which is very impressive considering that 547 skaters have laced them up for the Flames.

Wonder if that helped Peters make the decision at all? There will surely be plenty of after whistle stuff surrounding Chucky.
I just really hope that line can get some points going - Bennett seems to have really figured out the 'intangibles' part of his game but racking up some points would be huge for him

I don't know if that's an indictment on Frolik's production as a 2nd line winger, or if indicates that we vastly undervalued Wideman when he was here.

Wideman was what he was, a really good offensive defenseman who was too slow to be great in the neutral/defensive zone, though he was an underratwd penalty killer.
You don't score 56 from the backend by fluke.

There is a hidden aspect to that comparison. Wideman had 16 even strength goals while Frolik has 47. The difference is not as notable for assists 67 and 68 respectively. All the same, Frolik is a really consistent producer considering that he has never had prime PP minutes. Not to mention that Wideman was -33 and Frolik is +17.

Yeah, some eerily somber toughness is definitely going to be welcomed tonight - so I definitely think Peters had game 3 eyed up to try this line. Will be interesting to see how long he sticks to it
And this is a team Neal can score on, so the opportunity is definitely there to get some really good looks.

I think the consensus opinion of Wideman is a product of what happened in his final two seasons, which fairly effectively erased everything that transpired before then. Wideman was a consistint 0.5 pts/GP defenseman for his first three seasons in Calgary (albeit he only played half a season in 2013–14). After the 2015 run, his game fell apart. The NHL had become too fast for him to keep up, and he became a bottom-pairing defenseman practically overnight. That's what people remember. Nothing else.
