Yeah, it took them 5 games to win 4 games. Thats pretty conclusive.
Well I would hope not. They're the ones actually getting paid to do this.

'Just in the playoffs.'

They don’t. It’s a new season. Whatever happened last April is pretty irrelevant on opening night.

It does. But playoffs and regular season are two different beasts. We're talking about regular season games right now. Let's talk about playoff performance again in April.

I am also expecting a close loss. The difference from some of you is that I do not believe that the Colorado Avalanche are the reincarnation of the 1972 Montreal Canadiens.

Yeah. It means something to that season.
But I have great news for you: it's a new season.

Seven Things to Watch for Tonight
- Mark Giordano is one goal from tying Bill Gadsby and becoming 57th all time in goal as an NHL defensemen. He will do so in 400 fewer games even if it takes him 15 to put one in the net.
- Johnny Gaudreau is two points from passing Joe Mullen and becoming 17th all time in points as a Flame.
- Sam Bennett is 8 PIM from tying Brad McCrimmon and becoming 53rd all time in penalty minutes. We will have to see how well Bennett and Zadorov remember one another.
- Mikael Backlund is one short handed goal from passing Joe Nieuwendyk and becoming 6th all time as a Calgary Flame. Sort of lame thing to watch for, all the same the active stat leaders are bumping against some of the all time greats.
- David Rittich is one win from passing Jonas Hiller and becoming 15th all time. He will reach that milestone in at least 11 fewer games.
- Mark Giordano is one point from passing Eric Vail and becoming 9th all time as a Calgary Flames for points.
- Milan Lucic is 2 goals from reaching a career 200.

I predict that each and every one of these milestones is reached tonight.

JG has been such a strong backchecker this preseason. He sure got the message, and hopefully the rest follow. While Gio is the obvious captain, a strong work ethic from JG especially on the defensive side could do wonders to motivate and lead the team.

A fighting major for Bennett? Four minors? A game misconduct? I kind of hope he doesn't reach that milestone in one game.

The past didn't mean anything in the Honda Center either, yet 15 years. One would almost think that there's a mental aspect to sports.

15 years v. four games. Do you honestly think that Colorado is burrowed in the Flames's heads that deeply after a single playoff series?
I do not. It should be a good game tonight, and it's one that I think the Flames can win.

With the beating they got, they might be. I'm sure not ready to dismiss it outright.

Neither am I. I just don't see why we should on the other hand merely accept that the Flames will be embarrassed by Colorado tonight.

Would everyone be alright if the Flames lost their first regular season game tonight but won their final playoff game in June?
