This is one of the more interesting waiver wires in a while. Really excited to see what happens tomorrow. As others have mentioned, lots are going to see themselves on new teams.

Don't think the Flames try out on anybody unless they're okay with being a 13th/14th forward.

Could an argument be made that this waiver wire is also a product of the RFA contract explosion? A fair number of good players go on PTOs, get signed, a fair number of ELCs get kept, and comparable mid range guys who make more get sent down.

I’d be amazed if Sven is claimed due to his contract.

If some team truly wants to give him a chance, they should trade for him and get some futures for taking him off the Canucks hands.

Question
Say the Oilers wanted to claim just 1 player cause that is really all they have room for, but they are not sure if someone else will try to pick him up. Can they put in a claim for Sprong and Baertschi, and only take 1 player if both ended up being available?

Despite how pitiful their roster is, I don't believe they could fit Sven under the cap

I could be wrong, but IIRC if a team makes 2 claims, they must take both players.

IF a team ended up with both Sprong and Baertshi and in cap trouble, they would have to put someone back on waivers or make a trade to be cap compliant.

I don't believe the NHL would approve any move that put a team over the roster limit or salary cap, since these are hard caps

I could be wrong, but I believe it's the team's responsibility to manage their own cap and not the NHL's. As long as the team is following the rules and regulations, the NHL has to approve it.

Jets replacement for Byfuglien?

Lose one big-bodied former Blackhawk defenceman and replace him with another.

Can't wait to see today's waiver wire, should also be very interesting.

Also shocked that there were not any other claims.

I'm not
I think most teams would prefer to see how the team they have shakes out in the first few real games.
then I think a team would rather trade for the player if they want him, so they could possibly shed a contract and salary, and not just add.

I'm kind of surprised DeSmith wasn't grabbed. Gotta think there's a few teams where he'd be an upgrade to their #2 at least.

I'm surprised Columbus wouldn't take a shot at DeSmith or even Sprong/Baertschi.

I'm thinking Vancouver will trade Baertschi retained + a pick for someone else's 23 year old who hasn't established themselves in the NHL

Djoos, Sprong and Forsling all cleared?! I guess teams were being nice to each other regarding training camp waivers. I would have thought someone would have taken these guys.
