Sven's got two more years that will pay him $6 million dollars regardless of where he plays in NA. He's got two more years to prove himself.

It's hard to imagine him walking away from the $5.1 million he's still owed on his contract.

I am not writing off the effect injuries had on Baertschi's career, but he had big deficiencies even before then. Not to mention his refusal to accept proper development guidance from the Flames. This is exactly what happens when prospects aren't developed properly and in the case of Baertschi, it was his own doing.
He has a lot of skill, but can't do any heavy lifting or jack work. He is not a guy you build a winning roster with, although he is a guy that could wrack up meaningless points.

Goldobin is trash. I've seen more than enough from him on the Canucks last year to know that he will be back in the KHL in 1 year. He has skill but can't or won't put the work in.
Where would you slot him on the Flames NHL roster? He's not better than any of our top 13 forwards.

I'll take a chance on adding Sprongs 14 goals (25-30 goal pace), underwhelming preseason be damned. Plenty of players get a lot better in regular season.

Also keep in mind that the Flames are 2nd last in waiver priority until November 1st.
Every team except the lightning need to pass on a player for the Flames to successfully claim a player off waivers.

Hard pass on Goldobin. The kid's never heard of the word backcheck.

I dont really see any players that would be a noticeable upgrade on anyone. Especially not by the time they even get to us.

IMO DeSmith would be the best goalie on the Oilers or Sharks. Did he have a bad camp?

Looking at the stats, it seems he played better in the preseason than Jarry. They both require waivers, so perhaps the Pens thought he's more-likely to clear.
DeSmith is making almost twice as much as Jarry and the Pens do need to save as much cap space as possible right now. That's likely a factor as well.

According to Pens media that is the whole reason. He would be a great backup for a team, and signed for 3 years.

Half of those players on waivers would be clear upgrade on at least a dozen players on the Oilers.
Do they abandon all dignity and claim half-a-roster off of waivers, or only a player or two? Stay tuned...

They have 48 players under contract, so they could only claim 2 players at most.

Oh...they'd be waiving the hell out of most of their roster at the same time.
Look at that roster....you couldnt pick half of those guys out of a Police lineup.

Yeah, but no one would claim any of them, so it wouldn't reduce their contract count.

Oh wow. They have almost no flexibility.
I still expect at least one claim, possibly 2.
I wouldn't be surprised if they claim Quine just to try and one-up us on Rieder.

This actually makes me happy. A well earned issue. I sort of forgot how awesome we were in the regular season.

Sprong is a natural goal scorer, his issues stem from not rounding out the rest of his game. For a team like Ottawa, a chance for him to show his stuff would be good for him. Could also learn with the rest of that young team.
Wouldnt mind him, but I'd take Goldobin above anyone else. Just didn't work in vancouver. Honestly, there's a bunch of guys on this waiver wire who will be changing teams tomorrow I think.
