No surprise.
Need guys like this in the A.
A call up guy in case you need to add some grease to the line up in case of injury.

Flames are now at 45 out of 50 contracts with Rieder and Rinaldo on the books

Between Tkachuk, Lucic, Bennett, and Rinaldo people are going to hate us this year. I love it.

Much better option than Lomberg as a call up. Don’t love it, but definitely like it.

Is this a sign that MacDonald is not getting a deal?
I figure the Reider deal was delayed to announce these together, so what does that mean for him?

MacDonald may still get a deal with Flames. There are teams in need of dmen, Winnipeg comes to mind where Andrew might be able to get a 1 way deal.

The signing of Rieder probably does a lot to ensure that.
That said, I think Rinaldo is a significant upgrade on the likes of Peluso and (especially) Lomberg. If the coaching staff wants to have another deterrent for Oilers, Avs, or Kings games, I could see Rinaldo being a decent option to have. He has 15 career goals in this league and a pretty sweet shot. His skating is NHL-calibre. I don't think he'd look outlandishly out-of-place like some other goons the Flames have dressed over the years.

maybe not a popular opinion now that he's signed, but I absolutely despise the type of game he represents and hoped they wouldn't sign him. Why they feel they have to sign a goon at this time of the year every season is beyond me, but alas, here we are.

Chances are he will play similar number of games that Lomberg played for us last year.

Perfect. Free depth upgrade on Lomberg.
He's another nuclear option we can deploy if need be.

OK with this. Need warm bodies and NHL ready ones are better than career AHLers.

Powerplay Quarterback

Not the best fighter but he does throw some good hits from time to time.
I don't expect him to play every game of the season. Most likely some spot duty against the tougher teams.
Better than Lomberg anyway

Perfect teammate, love his game. Type of guy that plays on the edge of the rules and protects his own guys.

He's not *supposed* to be a goon. He's supposed to be fast and finish checks. If he wants to play in the NHL he'll need to do a lot more of the latter.

I like him better than most of the goons this team has chosen to dress over the years. Skates well and has a peskiness to his game that most other enforcers don't.
As long as he spends most of his time in Stockton and only sees the occasional game, I have no problem with this.

solid depth signing. No expects this signing to make an impact... Calgary has open salary slots so its not like there isn't room...
good signing that can help the kids on the farm develop into a pro...and he can be an effective call up in a pinch with his speed and willingness to play hard
