Rittich started in the AHL.

Do Euro UFAs ever start in the ECHL?

Fair enough, but who would you suggest to back up Parsons, Schnieder? Parsons has shown incredible skill set, but he is also very inconsistent. I follow our AHL team during the regular season and the most consistent goaltending I have seen in last 2 or 3 seasons was from Rittich, who had zero NA experience at that point. Not only that, he was coming from the Czech league which cannot be compared to the KHL in terms of quality. Zagidulin already has a record of success from one the best pro leagues, something guys like Parsons or Schneider doesn't have yet. He is a front-runner in my eyes, but we will see.

I would imagine Zag will start in the AHL where the other Russian players are and can help him adjust (well, Valiev will help Zag & Yelesin). We aren't the Oilers.

I honestly hope we swap him for someone else's waiver garbage because I feel we have more use for depth at F or D, since we have 5 other goalies

In the context of this discussion—which is about what to do with Jon Gillies—then in the event that the Flames are unable to find a landing spot for Gillies on another team, and are also blocked from moving him to the ECHL, he would have to stay in Stockton. My suggestion was as a worst case scenario: theoretically, Zagidulin could start in Vegas, and be returned to Stockton as soon as the situation with Gillies is resolved.

Zag was clearly signed with the intention that he would replace Gillies in the organizational depth chart after Gillies fell out of favour last year.

A couple of years further along in his development than Schneider and Parsons, it gives the flames the flexibility to be playing those guys when and how it is best for their development, while giving Stockton help to play more meaningful games.

You may have heard, Vegas doesn't have an ECHL team anymore.

The only news here is that Derek Wills was first to get this scoop.

I believe the Flames did this with Marcus Nilsson at the end of his career.

There is one team that can give him 1A time in the American League, and will need a backup for next year, when one of their tandem goes UFA.

Micheal Dal Colle has desperately needed a change in scenery out of the Island for about 2 years now. If Gilles could be part of a package for him, that is someone who would flat out fly on a line with Backlund or Ryan.

Dal Colle actually started to find a groove with the Islanders at the end of last season. I could see him needing a trade if he falls off this year, though.

His biggest issue has always been his lack of footspeed, though. I don't know if I'd say he'd "fly" in the right spot.

And watch Mitch Korn turn Gillies into a Vezina contender.

Hmmmm.... I must be thinking of someone else from that draft, who was the one with wheels.

Either way, for a lot of teams that can't draft a goalie to save their lives, Gilles could still be a bit of a commodity.

Zagidulin is pretty important and at the start of the season, his development takes priority over any of our other goalies. Talbot is still a giant question mark and if the Flames find themselves quickly needing a new backup, Zagidulin is the best bet in the organization. I hope he gets a healthy amount of playing time in Stockton out of the blocks.

Cheers. Ya that would seem like the logical thing to do. Maybe even loan him out to another AHL team perhaps but who knows if theres any takers.

Not surprising that he gets waived. I would have thought he might have stuck around till the final roster day though. Gives them an extra practice goalie.

Could the Flames and Gillies mutually agree to terminate the contract?

Say he refused to report to Kansas City.
