I dunno i get it, but im just not crazy about 7M for only 3 years and a 9million QO away from UFA. Whatever, Im late to the party and its probably been beaten to death... but thats where im at. Oh well, we should have starting lineup for the last preseason game and I am more then pleased about that.

Has Cap friendly posted their year 3 on Tkachuk incorrect?
Where are you looking?

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/matthew-tkachuk

This has it as $5M, $7M, $9M with $4 million in signing bonus this year and $3.5 million in signing bonus next year. The final year is $9 million all salary (to maximize the required QO).

or

Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Lucic - Lindholm - New winger
Mangiapane - Ryan - Rieder

I still just look back at the fact we were in on Ferland to some degree, almost acquired Zucker/Kadri as a pretty clear signal that Tree is after an upgrade to the top 9.

Or nothing happens, and we roll:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik/Bennett
Lucic - Ryan - Bennett/Frolik
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Rieder
Czarnik

(I’m assuming Rieder is getting a contract and Dube will be used as a call-up)
Or

Gaudreau Monahan winger
Tkachuk lindholm winger
Bennett backlund frolik
Winger ryan winger

I love the idea of backlund Bennett frolik and they played well so far in pre season. Monahan and gaudreau have carried lessor wingers before but would love to see a 2nd duo in lindholm and tkachuk. Whoever develops chemistry with top 2 lines sticks. Early on use it as motivation for bubble players or guys like lucic

I believe that 3rd line could be elite 3rd line

If the purpose of a press conference is to make the fans feel good about the team, mission accomplished.

I don't love the deal, but I don't mind it. I was never excited about signing a guy for crazy money long term based on one good year. No matter how good that year was.

What I do love is hearing Chucky talk about winning here. Such a class act.

Any time I hear players talk about Treliving, I also get a feeling there's a ton of respect for him. Even though he can be a tough negotiator (just ask Mangiapane), it seems like he can always make the players understand where he's coming from and keep things from becoming personal in the bad way.

I only tuned in after the fact, and kind of skimmed along some of the Q and A.

For a standard press conference, there was actually some good stuff in there regarding Tkachuk wanting to keep the team together etc.

Randomly what stood out to me, was a question that was directed to Treliving, that he answered well (Can't remember what the question was) And Tkachuk just jumped in to add to the answer after Treliving finished. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Most players look and act like they would rather be anywhere else. Speak when spoken to, and thats it. Treliving even looked surprised that he jumped in.

It was so weird and refreshing.

I know it's stylish to make duos out of a centre and a winger, but I would really like to see Tkachuk and Bennett together on the wings. You put a finisher in Monahan or Lindholm between those two, and that would be a lot for the opposition to handle.

Honestly, if you had a Tkachuk-Monahan-Bennett 'first' line, could you imagine a Gaudreau-Lindholm-Mangiapane 'second' line playing against a defensively softer lineup every night?

Johnny would win the Art Ross. Or at least take a tonne less punishment.

Well, I have to say I had a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth during this process. However, after listening to Tree and Chucky speak I feel way better about him and the process.

Drop the puck already!

I'm pretty sure Brad meant he's glad he didn't have to make a trade under duress, and Tkachuk is glad the roster remained intact (minus addition by subtraction in Neal).

Nice
'member when Stamkos became a UFA and signed with his beloved Leafs?

Oh. . . . Wait. . . .

Here's a lost of top 2020 UFAs. Want to bet how many guys with long term relationships with their team re-sign? I'm betting the vast majority do, of not all.

Tkachuk is extremely well spoken. Makes him a good choice to be a leader when it comes to dealings with the media and the public. That is certainly a skill that will serve him well in life.

Just because you call a line a first line doesn’t mean the opposition will treat it as such and put its best defenders against it.

The opposition best shut down line would still face Johnny.

Nice
St. Louis is where his family is based and where he essentially grew up. The chances of one (or perhaps both) Tkachuk brothers eventually ending up there is more likely.

That is why I put them in quotes. Concentrate on one line, and the other....

It is why Pittsburgh has had so much success over the years, with sometimes some pretty average wingers.

Well, it helped that Crosby and Malkin were both top-three players in the League.
