Weird how much Hamonic looks like Gio in that video.

I guess Giordano stole his nickname then.

Maybe a bit of a stretch, but I bet the Flames wanted 6.75 over 3 years, but ended up giving the extra 250k as a sign on good faith. Let's meet in 2 years and get a long term deal done before arbitration hits.
Not likely any of this is true. Tkachuk is grinding for the best he can get and it will be that way next time as well. It was either give me the big dollars for a long contract or I'll take the smaller contract and get to FA as soon as possible (like every other star RFA).

There's no fairytale stuff happening here where the Flames tacked on extra money as show of faith to negotiate a second contract later. They won't meet in two years, Tkachuk will meet in the summer after the third year, listen to what Brad has to say, likely take the qualifying offer of $9mil and then the following summer listen to the whole league for the max contract he can get.

That's his benefit to signing this contract at lower dollars - becoming a UFA really soon. He's not giving up his benefit because the Flames gave him $250k extra, lol.

That does not look to me like a winning roster in four year's time, and the Blues could arguably be in worse shape than the Flames by then. Tkachuk would still be waiting an additional two years to fulfill his childhood dream of playing with his brother. Is he really prepared to risk two years in his mid-twenties just for an outside chance of playing in his home town with Brady? I seriously doubt it.
How many of those players will be with St. Louis in 5 years? 50%?

Who the hell knows where anyone will be playing in 5 years. No sense worrying about it and no sense projecting rosters either IMO.

If the Flames want Tkachuk for another contract after 4 years they can have him before free agency, but they'll be paying "within range" of what he's expected to receive in free agency.

Really? That's weird, because I am posting from here in the future, and Tkachuk's agent and Treliving are meeting to hammer out an extension as we speak.

Fake news.

Four years. And you are completely missing the point of my response.

Of course they will. Why would anyone think any different?

Was just responding to the guy who figured the Flames had some stuff going on where they would be negotiating early because they paid more now in a "wink wink" deal. (Although, I didn't quote him for this reply)

If every Flames fan knows that the next Tkachuk contract will cost pretty much what the entire league would pay on July 1st, then I apologize, text. It was wasted bandwidth, I guess.

I would love to move Brodie for a similar package as Faulk which could have given the Flames more money to go 6 years with Tkachuk.

This has been Treliving’s worst summer as GM of the Flames in my opinion.
There's a big, BIG difference between moving Brodie because you want to, and moving Brodie because you have to.

If Treliving decides to move Brodie, fitting Tkachuk under the cap, giving Treliving the freedom to make a move on his terms and his time, will significantly improve his return.

This isn't a great deal, but if anything it's maybe a $500k overpayment for the term in question, which... whatever. Every cap dollar counts but if you've overpaid by less than 10%, that's pretty much just splitting hairs.

I'm just happy to see a deal get done and I can stop looking at my phone every 20 mins to see if there's been any progress. At first I was a bit surprised about the AAV being slightly higher than Point's, but then I remember the tax advantage Point has so he is still realistically making more money in the end anyways.
