In hindsight, we might have gone this route. With two, they are less pets and more roommates. They are still hilarious to watch though.

Serious question, where do the free range budgies poop? As a kid, our family had a budgie or two but they were caged unless they escaped which, looking back, seems terrible for the bird.

Where they want, which blows. They are quite habitual though. Ours are anyway. Even adding something new to their cage (treats or a new toy) will throw them off for a bit. This means they have their route and crap locations. For us, it's about 3 spots (cage, a couple of window ledges). And they rarely leave "their" room which is a 4 season sun room. Unless they're hungry. Then they will track us down and dive bomb us.

Haha, yep, birds are celebrated poopers.

Ours mostly uses her cage but for the window perches, we just put down a piece of paper towel below her and change daily. We tend to clean frequently anyways so it's not much extra work. Budgie poop is so small it dries very quickly and is easily vacuumed up if need be.

We have finches, a lovebird, and a quaker parrot.

The quaker poops noticeably less frequently than the other birds. Both the quaker and the lovebird prefer not to poop on our shoulders - then tend to poop in their cages right before being picked up. If they do have to poop, they sometimes fly back to their cage and poop there.

They weren't trained to do this, it just sort of happened after several years of handling. The lovebird is 15 years old, so he's had quite a bit of time to adjust.

Do you guys have a vet for your birds? Somewhat difficult to find in our area. The one we took our bird to last weekend was way up north. Anyone know of an Avian Vet in the Braeside area? Or south end of the city anyways?

Sorry, no. Our birds haven't needed any vet attention yet.

I thought there was a place on 17 Ave, around the Killarney area. I don't have a bird though and this information may be out of date.

I see this one on Crowchild. I don't have an experience there however. Just north of Richmond Road on the east side of Crowchild.

Thanks Lubicon. Chatted with them and they seem solid. Lots of vets there that treat birds. Fairly close too.

Had my pup who just turned 6 months old at the park this morning. Attempting to teach him how to run with me instead of just tripping me. Had some good success today!

Yup I could never do that. I left him with my mom for 3 days and she said he spent most of his time sitting in front of the door waiting for me. Just hearing that broke my heart a little, couldn't imagine leaving him somewhere to never return

I can't even go away for more than a day. One of my dogs stops drinking water. Wife took her to Sask to see relatives and cost me $800. She's 14.

I think it's better than some alternatives out there. At least the pet is safe and has a chance. I'm willing to commend people for that at least. I feel worse for dogs with owners who don't care, leave them tied up all day etc. Rez dogs. Strays. Mills. There are worse fates unfortunately.
