Nylander’s struggles last season are uppermost in most people’s minds.

So it was fine for Gaudreau but no chance for Tkachuk?

Gaudreau had just come off a 3 week tourney against NHL players and a training camp for that tourney.

Matt is skating with 17-19 year olds who are no where near the same caliber of play or game speed.

So no, no chance.

I disagree he is one of our best players and will play if he is signed before they take off to Colorado. You saying no chance is the same as me saying guaranteed he plays.

Nope, don't like any of that.
Jimmy has covered the game for awhile. Out of Boston.

 Jimmy Murphy
 @MurphysLaw74
Over the last 24 hours, I've been hearing some chatter from trusted sources that an NHL team is seriously considering an offer sheet for #Flames RFA F Matthew Tkachuk. As widely reported, Tkachuk and #Flames are far apart. More teams also thinking about trading for him too.

The team wont jeopardize him not being in game shape like that...it would be asinine to even think he could just jump in and play NHL hockey without practicing to do so for 6 months.

This isn't ground breaking news is it?

I'd consider 4 - 1st rounders from Ottawa or another dumpster fire. Don't want magic beans from a competitive team that would be middling picks though.

I'd much rather a trade than an offer sheet. Grab a star that can help us now not a bunch of 'maybe could be a good NHL'er in 4 years'.

The list of teams that have enough cap to offer sheet him are.
 Ottawa
 Anaheim
 Columbus
 Colorado

Realistically Colorado wont because they have their hands full their own RFA situation. That leaves Ottawa, Anaheim and Columbus.

The Sens would be a prime candidate, they have a spare 1st from SJS and would like to reunite the brothers. That said, I can't see Tkachuk wanting to play for the worst team in the league.

No idea where the Flames draw the line on what they will match, but I would think its somewhere around that point, not because of the $$ but because of the term.

Seems like Columbus or Ottawa would be the only teams that could offer sheet him st a price that would make it tough to match for the Flames.
The Sens next 4 1st rounders and they get both Tkachuk’s?

Is Jimmy Murphy all that reliable? I know who he is, but I don't consider him an insider. Not like the others. Isn't he around Incarcerated Bob territory?

If someone was to offer sheet him, we probably would not be able to match it without dumping contracts. Im shocked that nothing has been done at this point to address cap space issues. That tells me more than anything they are too far apart and they dont want to trade unless something is imminent. Not sure i agree with that strategy in case an offer sheet does happen

You won’t convince me and I won’t convince you so this is the last I will say on it. He is a 21 year old elite athlete likely in the best shape of his life like most NHLers are at this time of year. Jeopardize? This isn’t a player coming off an injury and hasn’t been on the ice for 6 months.

I think if he signs on the eve of the season he takes the morning skate and if he and the coaches think he looks fine he would be in the lineup. Laughable to suggest he hasn’t practiced or been on the ice with other elite athletes in the past 6 months.
