Just 88 more to go. A big 2 points tonight.

He apparently had both grandparents die in a short span of time.

I remember him having a strong connection with his grandfather from stories around the time he was drafted, so could be pretty devastating circumstances for a.young man.

I noticed part of his routine to get set prior to faceoff was a ritual where he eventually points to the sky, not sure if that's part of it.

DSP apparently with a 0% corsi for tonight, great work

I think he’ll be the first (did Gryba even suit up?) PTO sent home

But what really concerns me about this game is that it is the 3rd time already in this preseason that the Flames have been complete no-shows in the 3rd period. I don't know what the problem is, but it needs to be fixed immediately.
I feel as if being a 3rd period no-show in the pre-season is no big deal

Most of the regulars come out - put on a solid first half and take the rest of the night off

I've always been a believer the pre-season is inverse regular season

Really surprised at how disappointing DSP has looked. It's pre-season, and you're playing for a job against AHLers - if you can't make yourself occasionally visible, what the hell is wrong with you?

Yes. Do not like. What I worry about is over confidence. Yes it’s preseason and players are managing themselves but I get whiff of this team thinking they are too good. That has a chance to carry over into regular season.

I haven’t noticed Lindholm in any games. Jankowski, Hanifin, Hamonic are non chalant.

Gio never had this problem. He might fine tune his shot in preseason but his compete is always high. The team needs to have a better mental approach.

His only chance now is to pull a Jack Campbell. Although like Campbell it won’t be with the franchise that drafted him.

Gillies is playing like a guy with no confidence, afraid to make a mistake. I think he needs to hit a bit of a bottom of some sort so he can rebound and play like he's got nothing to lose. either a trade or a loan to another team. I can't see him spending another year in Stockton as being the answer.

I kind of want Rinaldo on this team. I could see him dragging the team along kicking and screaming a few times this year. There’s a few teams I could easily see him getting into the lineup against when you want some more grit and shenanigans. Wanted more out of Smith-Pelley but I was honestly surprised he was even playing.

I never liked him as a player, but he adds an element I think the team could use.

Again, if he signs for league minimum and is our 13th forward that sits more than he plays... what's the harm?

He's a free upgrade on Lomberg in that speedy pest role, and he's an aggressive forechecker that makes Dmen make mistakes.

Yeah, pretty much exactly what you said AC. I feel there is a role for a greasy forward that is not Tkachuck on this team and he has a decent balance of skill, tenacity and weasel.

Not concerned about the final score. Gillies didn't look good at all and despite all the PP's there wasn't any of the true first-line PP players in the game so not a big deal they didn't capitalize. Would have been nice to see more high glove side shooting though but this was a B-ish squad that looked great for the first half of the game and then kinda phoned it in after Gillies came in. Hope he can find his game in Stockton's camp. Won't be a bad thing for the Flames if he does.

I don't know how this team could possibly think that about themselves, considering the way they had their asses handed to them in last year's playoffs.

I wouldn't worry too much yet. We're only halfway through preseason and the Flames essentially iced their B team tonight. Also most of the vets won't really bring the goods until the puck drops on October 3rd. I think we'll see the young guys get at least one more good look in the back-to-back against Winnipeg, and then we'll finally see the A squad for the final two preseason games.

Only thing I'm really worried about at the moment is that we might not have Tkachuk for the start of the season.

I don't like Rinaldo, never have.

That said, I agree that he seems like our best option for our 13th forward. He seems to have a good attitude, which is extremely important in that role, and a decent work ethic.

That said, Peters seems to like Rieder, and he likely has a lot of say here.

In the first game he played, his passes lacked anything resembling touch or aim. Forget in the skates, they were like five feet off from the target. He was fast, but so was Rico Fata.

Last night hardly changed my mind. Nothing he brought influenced the game positively.

Every year we bring in a Bollig / Glass / Peluso and then reality kicks in when these guys can't play a regular shift, in the case of the latter two not even in the minors.

Quine is the obvious choice for 13th forward. Facepunching be damned. Decent forechecker, good skill, good size/speed balance, already under contract, might not even clear waivers if we waive him.

Hmm, yeah kind of forgot about Quine.

I don't see him being snatched off the waivers, but yeah nothing wrong with him as a 13th forward either.

There was only one line that played worth a damn last night, and that was the Lomberg line. They were the only ones who played with any consistency. All the rest should be sent on a 40 mile hike into the wildness to see of they can find themselves. Just a craptastic effort all around, especially from Backlund and company. Their line may have got a goal early on, but after that they were complete trash and did nothing, especially after the goaltending change. To get absolutely punked by that Oilers lineup is something that should never happen. You can lay a lot of the loss on the Gilies but the lack of pride push back in some of the players is a little disturbing.

They don't care yet. It's preseason and the vets use this to warm up. Gio is a guy who gives 100 no matter what but he is a very rare breed.
