I’m still pissed at Mang, I hope the media asks some tough questions like What were you thinking? I hope Dube completely outplays Mang with Phillips and Gawden pushing hard. He needs to earn my trust again

Because he underestimated Treliving? Because got some poor advice from his team? Who cares, get over it. It's part of the business.

Welcome back, Andrew. Hope he kills it this season and the balls in his court next summer.

I believe that as a 23 year old who signed his ELC 3 years ago has to clear waivers after 60 NHL games.

He needs 6 more and then he has to clear waivers to be sent down.

I don’t care if Mangiapane tried to wait it out and make a little more. I’m a huge fan of his, and I think he’s gonna be a good one.

After binging a good amount of Dragons Den, I think this should be required viewing for anyone looking to negotiate with the Calgary Flames.

It's been funny listening to Jim while the whole AM thing has been going on. If the apple doesn't fall far from the tree (yeah...), you're getting the guys fair and honest offer. He's clear about where you need to be for him to be in, and he's not likely to be playing games with you. At least on TV, I always love the respect he shows people's side and how politely firm he can be. He shows respect to their pitch no matter the size as long as they're realistic and passionate in what they're building. Things I wouldn't be surprised Brad carries as well.

If Treliving didn't budge from the QO all summer, I'd love to be a fly on the wall as the agent tried to sell this half-year of potential to a playoff team...

I agree with you I just hope he learned a lesson, love the player as well. It probably was real bad advice from his agent. I hope he has an awesome career as a Flame and hopefully any future young players will also learn from this and not make the same mistake. Proud of Tre for standing his ground Go Flames Go!

I'm sure he got a bump on his minors salary (which I had heard was a major sticking point). Haven't been able to track any of that info down yet though...

Mangiapane's role with Calgary would have been in trouble had he sat out much longer as there are plenty of bottom-six forwards available. "I don’t think me missing time was a good thing," Mangiapane admitted. "I wanted to be back, I wanted to be on the ice and gearing things up for the season. That was the most important factor in me signing. My agent, and all that, I just think it was a good time to start training camp. No one wants to miss training camp and being away from the guys and seeing everything that was going on and everything like that. Me coming back and me training, I guess, proving myself and trying to have a good year — that starts with training camp." He had eight goals and 13 points last season. A slight bump in stats is in order but he has no fantasy value.

This timing smacks of him getting tired of his agent’s advice and saying “F it, I will sign”.

^ Yup, so does his "My agent... and all that... [change topic]"

Sounds like he was going to address something about his agent and thought otherwise

Yeah, that is exactly what I heard in that interview. I bet he switches agencies now.

This was a bizarre case. A player with no leverage who is an NHL tweener until proven otherwise trying to play hardball with the best team in the west.

I'm not sure what this agent thought he could accomplish by having his client sit out of camp.

I'm sure glad he finally signed because even star players have a tough time recovering from missing camp, nevermind guys just trying to make it.

Hoping for a big year from this guy.

I really really hope he does. This was such an absurd move

"Well done kid, you've earned this"
*hands perfectly reasonable QO*
"Thanks, I can't wait to contribute as an actual NHLer in my first full year next year"

*Out of nowhere*
Agent: "Time to play hardball, Brad. We got him, you want him... let's talk turkey - I got allllll day"

His agent is scheduled to be on the radio this morning at 9 (scheduled before this all was resolved, I believe).

Cap friendly has it as a 1way contract. Hopefully they are correct. To have it as a 2-way would just be vindictive.

If the Flames would have made it a 2-way the agents would have declared war on the Flames.

Right...cause a guy who has 13 career NHL points has every right to demand a 1 way deal....and a team not capitulating to that would be "vindictive".

It is a 2 way and it should be.

Why on Earth would you hope for a worse contract for the team you cheer for?

We don't really know what was being offered to him. The holdout may have been about the AHL salary for all we know.

At the end of the day the holdout cost nothing, I'm not certain why many are so up in arms over it.
