Toms House of Pizza
Hey,
So after listening to many an add for Toms House of Pizza on the Fan960 I am wondering if anyone has tried their offering.
I checked the webiste and the pizza names are definately strange. They are also a bit pricey compared to a Pizza73 so I was just wondering what peoples experience has been.
Thanks

the pizza is ok, a little better than many of the generic chains, but certainly there are others I prefer
for whatever reason when my son was about 1 year old he took to it, so we ordered nothing but for a few months
I should clarify the reason I didn't like it more was the thin crust , which isn't my preferred. the pizza itself , no complaints

I actually worked at Tom's Mcleod and a few times Somerset for about 2 years. It's a great place, and their food is honestly very good. I know this because I also worked for Boston Pizza, and so was able to compare a relatively smaller pizza establishment with a large pizza chain like Boston's.
Tom's is actually, if you can believe it or not, generally the same if not less then Boston pizza in price. And for that price, you are getting FRESH ingredients. Gauranteed. The thing about Boston Pizza, is that they get all their vegetables, sauces and pizza doughs through pre-constructed packaging and factory processed ingredients. Tom's is much healthier just based on the fact that all of its ingredients are pre-cut in the warehouse in the back at the Mcleod location. I remember being on warehouse duty. All of their cheese, meats, and most of their vegatables come whole, and are then portioned correctly in the back. I'm not sure if I'm explaining this correctly, but it makes a big difference in freshness.
If you'd like any other information, let me know.

It took me 14 years of living in Calgary to try it.
It's good pizza; as said before good toppings. The cheese was a little too sharp for my taste, and I'm not the world's biggest fan of thin crust. Having said that they do make a good thin crust though.

I haven't eaten at Tom's for probably 10 years, but I used to like their pizza a lot. Thin crust and loads of toppings.
The inside of the restaurants always seemed a bit dingy to me, but the pizza made it worthwhile.

For the most part, it is VERY good pizza. Unfortunatley, the level of quality seems to have dropped a lot recently. It used to be my girlfriends and mine favourite place to order from but the last few times we have had it delivered, it was very substandard.
During its hey day, we would always order from Toms, no 2nd though to anywhere else. I hope they get their act together as it is really very good.

I love Tom's house of Pizza.
I've never ordered it for delivery because I really like going there. It has the feel of an old school (by old school I mean like the 80s) pizza joint.
Every time I go there I can't help but think about all the bad 80's teen shows where everytime someone went for a date they went for pizza. I suppose I like feeling like I'm in an episode of Saved by the Bell.

It is a bit pricey but it's a hell of a lot better than Pizza73. I cheaped out and ordered that stuff the other day and it still cost me 26 bucks. That's not quite the deal it used to be -- one medium pizza for 26 dollars and the other one free. Sure that's 2 for 1 alright.
Tom's is good.

Tom's was OK on the few occassions that I have tried it but I would rather stock a costco pizza in the freezer and fire one of those babies up any day

Have not been to Tom's in many years, but back then it was by FAR the best pizza I had tasted in a long time.

LOVE Tom's. But the problem is it does not fill you up at all. You can keep eating and eating and eating.

Pizza 73 is awful...
The Oddessy Pub on Bow Trail and abour 37th street near the Royal Bank has awesome pizza, so filling.
Try the Oddessy special, so much **** on there, and it'll cost you only $20 for a large. Where other Large pizza's are like $25 and are the equivelent of a piece of cardboard, a drop of sauce and dried out cheese....

I tried Toms a couple of years ago, just to see what the fuss was about. Our pizza was not good, and considering the price, not worth it.
I think that the best is Peninsula Pizza (deep south).

Agreed! Completely! Only 12 slices in a large. But it's been that way forever, so it probably won't change.

Just had lunch at the Macleod Trail location today.
Have been eating THP all my life. ( Second generation family member to do so, now training my kids to love THP)
Memorized the phone number by heart so I could order from the Airport when I would come to Calgary, while living out of town, for a couple years.

I remember when the original Tom, THE TOM introduced me to snow shovelling.
Except that it wasn't as much of an introduction to snow shovelling as a seemingly pride thing. It seemed like he still wanted to make sure things were in order. When he told me to shovel his way, it was actually the exact same way I was shovelling before he came out. I thought it was pretty funny, he's a really great guy.
Also, if your a fan of Tom's you should blacklist Bob's pizza right off of Crowchild and Memorial there. Long story, but he's the enemy.

I always wondered what the story was with Pizza Bob's.
Same pizza, different name, and it used to be a Tom's, weird stuff.
So what is the story?

Tom Fowler was my landlord - he owns tons of commercial properties - when I opened my first business. He was a pretty straight-up guy, but don't ever try to cross him. Pizza Bob's Classic Pie used to be a Tom's, IIRC.
Tom's is one of my favorite places when I'm in the mood for pizza - love their beef and onion offering!

An acquaintance of mine used to own a Tom's and knew the guy on Memorial. IIRC, the problem was over royalties.
