I don't think that's the old Corral Drive-In. The Corral was off MacLeod Trail.
I'm pretty sure its the 17th Ave. Drive-In - Forest Lawn.

Yeap it was the Corral-4. We use to go the odd time in high school. I would love to take my kids to the drive in. They can re open until my daughter turns 16ish and then all shut down again..

I'd love if they reopened a drive-in somewhere.

Seen Congo there, some dude was dressed like an Ape during the movie banging on car windows scaring the bejeebus out of people during it, I also remember a buddy getting stuck in the trunk of a 1984 Crown Vic due to a broken lock because we always snuck one guy in the trunk. Wasnt Tuesdays like a car load for $20 or something.......
what a shame man...

Man, that's too bad. Obviously drive-ins don't work so well up here, what with the long days in the summer and all. My Dad always used to insist on taking our family to see a double bill as close to June 21 as possible. I remember seeing the Flintstones at that theatre (I think the second movie was Jurassic Park) ... Drive-Ins were such a cool experience but I'm sure their demise has something to do with a public that demands better sound than AM radio can provide.

Man that sucks, I used to be a manager there. Good times. When the place closed down they had a fire sale on all the equipment. A nice popcorn machine for 20 bucks. I think they just threw it out.

It's disapointing that these haven't had a revival yet. Car stereo's have come a long way. Lots of cars come with Bose speakers or other high quality names. But I guess it all is lost with AM. I know I have car subwoofers that would provide enough bass for a regular theatre.
I can't see that THX or whatever has been the demise of the drive-in. Must be something else, a combination of several things.

I stand corrected. So what the heck was the name of the drive in that used to be where the Southland LRT station now is (or somewhere around there)?
This is going to drive me nuts.
I bet Cowperson knows the answer.

They would broadcast on an FM frequency (in stereo). Sounded pretty good on my Mach460 sound system.

There's a great documentary that airs sometimes on PBS on the history and demise of the drive-in movie theatre. As with all things on PBS, its replayed quite regularly so watch out for it.
My memory of the Corral is watching a double feature of "Runaway" starring Tom Sellick and "Silverado". I saw many others there too but for some reason that one sticks out.

I saw Runaway at the 401 Drive-in in London. I know London still has the Mustang Drive-in, it is only a couple miles from where I grew up.
I think it would be tough for Drive-ins to make a go of it here. There is a short season of warm weather and the sunset is so late in the summer. What time were movies able to get rolling?

According to this article, Calgary had 7 outdoor drive-ins during the hey day.
http://www.canada.com/calgaryherald/...a13273&k=38058
The one down off of Edmonton Trail was called the Sunset, or something like that. I don't recall the rest.

Corral Drive-In - N.W. corner of Heritage Dr. & Macleod Tr. South (before 1970)
Corral 2 Drive-In - N.W. corner of Anderson Rd. & Macleod Tr. South (1971-72_1979?)
Corral 4 Drive-In - 17th ave & 60th St. S.E. south of Hub Oil site (after 1979? -1999)
Cinema Park Drive-In - N.W. corner of Bowness Rd. & 37th St N.W.
17th Avenue Drive-In - N.W. corner of 17th Ave. & 45th St. S.W.
Sunset Drive-In - N.W. corner of Edmonton Tr. & 37th Ave. N.E.
Stampede Drive-In - Barlow Trail & 2 Ave. S.E. across from Fire Park.
I can sleep easy tonight.
