Sorry but you take what you can get until you establish yourself in this league. Agents often don't do their players any favors.

Pretty much.
As an old guy I've seen about 100 of these things play out in the last 20 years.
Fans worry about losing a player.
Fans worry about hurting the relationship.
But GMs need to hold the line in a respectful manner in all of these situations as every dollar and every ounce of team control counts.

If the Flames are offering him a 1-way contract at $800,000, I am fine with him holding out up to training cap. If Trev won't budge by that time, he should sign the contract.
Holding out for a 1-way is one thing, but holding out to get something batter than what he was offered could really bite in in the a$$.
And I agree, he'll be at training camp.

Anyone here think Mangiapane will clear waivers if sent down?
1-way should make no difference in this case. Mangiapane should bet on himself, have a great year, and get paid next year.

Same deal Goldobin just got then?
Really don't think it should be any higher than Goldobins based on stats.
Seems like a good comparison but haven't watched a ton of Canucks games so perhaps I am off base.

I think I see where you are going with that but the Flames will have more money than that to work with.
Edit - At 19 players on the roster and with #88 signed for $900K the Flames will have $9M to work with
Obviously they won't go into the season with 20 players on the roster, but 21, until they can make a move might be in order as has been discussed on this site by me, Bingo and others a few times. So basically add a 7D for close to the minimum

IMO, zero.
He wants at least $8.5M regardless if it's 1 year or 5. Anymore years than 5 and the price goes up hugely.
That's the new game of premium RFA's. They want prime money while they are in their prime.
Whether they all get it remains to be seen.
He might actually do it for 2 years if the last year is a lot more than the first year, to guarantee his next contract will have a huge jump. Like $4.7 M and $9M.

I disagree. NHL player agents are not dumb. They understand how the current market works, and they are all well aware that term has an enormous effect on the dollar value. Not a single GM in the League (besides maybe Kyle Dubas) would capitulate to sign a one-year deal that carries the same cap as a five year contract, so I am almost certain not a single player agent (except perhaps Mitch Marner's) will employ such a negotiating tactic.

Another comparable signing: "Blackhawks sign forward Brendan Perlini to a one-year contract with an AAV of $874,125."
https://twitter.com/user/status/1170034526380318723
Perlini has 45G/27A in 199 games.

I see where Mangiapane is coming from. He's 23 with 54 total NHL games played. He's far from a guarantee to even be an NHL regular, and a random injury could end an NHL player's career at any point. Mangiapane needs to squeeze as much out of this positive point in his career as possible. $200k could mean the difference between him having to take some mediocre job in 10 years or not.

Him not being a guaranteed NHLer is why he should sign the deal. Tre let 13 sit until the very last minute...you think he is worried about it with this guy? All I can say is he better sign have a really good camp.
