What if the Flames are offering 4 years, 850k/85k 2 way?

I doubt Mangiapane wants to miss any of training camp. He and is agent will cave and accept Treliving's offer a few days before camp.

As a player he has every right to want a 1 year deal and prove his worth for his next contract. IMO it would be bad faith for the club to refuse to offer a one year contract. I expect the difference is money and/or 1 way/2 way at this point.

Fair enough, that is another option. The guy was getting playing time in the playoffs on the top team in the west, I'm not sure going overseas is really a step forward, but it may be a negotiating tactic. Wish we knew what the offers were so we could all debate this a bit better.

Yeah this is exactly what I thought. Mangiapane thinks he'll have a big season and is willing to bet ~1million guaranteed dollars on it.
On one hand, that's really great.
Flames management has always been reluctant to do one year deals with young players. They do hold all the cards. Treliving was confused that mangiapane would gamble with a million guaranteed dollars.

Right now the Flames have all the leverage. Mangiapane has worked too hard just to throw it all away.

If BT is gonna let bottom six players with 13 career points dictate terms he is not the right guy for the job.
Sorry but you take what you can get until you establish yourself in this league. Agents often don't do their players any favors.

I assume that's what Maggy is trying to do, take what he can get. He's just not certain right now what that is.
You're suggesting he take whatever is offered.

League min and the opportunity on a top team should be more than enough. A cup champ just signed a PTO with Calgary

The best place for Andrew Mangiapane is with the Flames. They've provided an opportunity for a sixth-rounder to grow. To his credit, he's made the most of it. They see him as an important player going forward. He'd still be making more than he ever dreamed of. He stands to make much more down the road but that time is not now.

The 2nd point is not relevant.
Mags is likely being offered a 2-way contract paying scraps in the AHL. The opportunity is not guaranteed. I expect that is the holdup.

I think what Treliving means is that players with as little leverage as Mangiapane rarely "buck the trend". They are usually a very simple re-sign. I'm sure Treliving offered fair market value.

No. Just terrible.
Seriously though, with a name that translates to "Eat Bread" we're deciding to go with "Mags" as his nickname? At the very least, shouldn't it be "Mang"?

I’m OK with anything as long as it isn’t ‘mangy’.

I didn't want to spell it out, as I'd have to check.
You knew who I talking about, obviously. Does anything else really matter?

Lol.... communication is all that matters. If I understand what someone means regardless of grammar, spelling, abbreviations, shorthand, or nicknames they use, that's all that matters. When people start criticizing others on their grammar - it usually means that they don't have any good comeback or arguments for the substance itself - it's not good. One thing great about this place and Calgary fans... is that we rarely need to resort to these cheap tactics - up north, that's not always the case.
Oh.... and I'm not suggesting that Mag is a good or bad nickname or that anyone here did anything wrong... I for one like to hear peoples reasons for liking or disliking a nickname.

If Mags hurries back, he could potentially push Fro-yo and Benzo for the 2nd line RW
