Bianca has to go through Wozniacki and Halep to just reach the 4th round. It's pretty much a death draw for the first week of a major. Other ladies like Stevens and Bencic ranked similarly have much much easier matches.
Raonic is by no means in a death draw like Bianca, but it's hardly a great draw for Canadian tennis fans. It is by no means unheard of to avoid near top 10 players in the first couple rounds as a seeded male.
Didn't shake out overly well for any of them.

I still can't get over instant Felix or Shapo elimination for the 2nd year in a row. it sure does feel like a bit of tomfoolery going on in the back room there during the draw.

No, she would face Halep IN the fourth round. Rd1 Volynets; Rd2 Barthel; Rd3 Wozniacki; rd4 Halep. Would have to beat Halep to get to the QFs. Which isn't at all crazy when you're seeded 15th. Compare that to Bencic, who's seeded 13th and gets Naomi Osaka in rd4. Or Madison Keys, who's seeded 10th and gets Svitolina.
Barty and Williams sure have it easy until the semis, though.

Steve Johnson won the opening set over Benoit Paire 6-1. If he doesn't hold serve in this next game he will lose the next two sets 6-0 6-0.
Edit: A double bagel it is.

What kind of tennis is that?

Shapo in trouble as Hurkacz breaks and is servng for the match up 5-4 in set 2.
Edit: Shapo can pack his bags for New York as Hurkacz closes out Denis 6-3 6-4.

Thank you for all of the updates. That was a tough turnaround for him, but it was a solid run nonetheless.

Denis is playing much better and really should have won set 2, had four break points in one game and just couldn't cash in. The air was definitely let out of his tires after that game, but he continued to battle. Give credit to Hurkacz, he's going to be in the top 30 in short order, he's a heck of a player.

I'd call it a missed opportunity for Shapo as Hubert Hurkacz wins the ATP 250 event in Winston-Salem defeating Benoit Paire 6-3 3-6 6-3. Congrats to Hubert on his first ATP tourney title.

This doesn't make sense to me, the draw should be adjusted to shift players around, I mean why should a lucky loser get to play a wild card in the first round?!? Just pissed that Shapo and Felix are facing each other in the first round.

I think it's because the schedule is already out for Monday.
Monday night
Serera vs Maria
Federer vs Nagal (the guy who beat Polansky)

If he pulls off the upset, you know what you have to do...

I’ll need something to chuckle at whenever I click this thread if tomorrow actually pans out that way.

Haha well Nagal called Federer the God of tennis, I don't think he has the right mindset to pull the biggest upset of all time.
