I'm curious what makes you so sure that Spurs are a lock for third place?

Was it their final third of last season performance?

Backtracking a bit.

Reports are that he had been told he is not a major part of Franks plans. Arsenal is close and he knows and has worked with Emery before so it makes sense.

I think that last season there were a lot of things to deal with that have been resolved. A large portion of the squad was rundown after the World Cup, which also meant virtually no pre-season. Then you had the ongoing stadium issue which dragged on and on, and while we got a shot in the arm at arguably the perfect time, that's done. Those are two massive differences.

Now, depending on who you believe, we might add another player or two tomorrow as well. We had a whack of injuries crop up through the season and that just plain caused a lot of problems as we didn't have the depth.

I don't think anyone is a lock for anything. Maybe Newcastle to be relegated? I think that it will be tight amongst the top teams though. Gun to my head, I doubt that City and Liverpool both have a repeat season this coming year and one or both is probably closer to the pack. Spurs should gain at least a few points. Chelsea and Arsenal are both in varying degrees of decline. United has addressed their issues in some respects, but I don't think they're strong enough in the middle, and looking at them after February it's hard to say what we'll see this season. Everton/Wolves/Leicester are probably that next tier and maybe one or two of them can make some ground on 6th/7th?

Cancelo for Danilo and £26 million. And the rich get richer. Another curious move from Juventus.

After a great start in getting De Ligt and Ramsey & Rabiot on Free transfers...it's been a curious summer from Juventus.

If they end up turning Cancelo & Dybala into Danilo & Lukaku that would be ridiculous.

Even though I do think that Lukaku's physicality could cause Serie A defenses a lot of trouble, they would be a worse Champions League team IMO.

All a ploy for Ronaldo to single handily win them the CL and permanently end the GOAT debate.

^ Lukaku is off to Inter. Medical tomorrow.

in the end, they shot themselves in the foot by trying to force Dybala out. anow he's rejected United and Spurs and they are stuck with a player who they pretty much tried to bully out of Italy. Genius move.

Did I miss the memo where they said they're now handing out trophies and CL spots for the last 12 games of the season?

No. No you didn't.
There was no memo.
That clear things up for you?

Sure, so Spurs had a terrible final twelve games and I've explained why I think this year will be better. Why do you think I'm wrong? And why do you think United is still in the mix for Champions League?

Tough to look at a section of the table like that IMO.

Spurs had ran into injury issues at that time and had clearly shifted focus to the CL as well.

Your first excuse was that it was a post WC year as if that was exclusive to Spurs. Then injuries as if that was exclusive to Spurs.
Why do I think United are still in the mix? Because after the top two everything after that including Spurs is very average.

I might agree with you if it was a random selection but it's the final third of the season. And no, they had not clearly shifted focus to the CL as well. In fact, it reinforces my argument.

These were NOT meaningless games. They SHOULD have been meaningless games but weren't due to their inability to secure that top 4 spot on multiple occasions way before seasons end.

As for injury issues. Two guarantees for this season Kane will miss time with an ankle injury and Alli with a hamstring.

All I'm saying is that I lump Spurs in with the average teams, not above them. They are far from a shoe in for third.

I guess we agree to disagree and see who ends up more right. It's not an excuse that Spurs had the WC issue though; we had a lot of players play deep into that tournament and fatigue and injuries caught up to them.

The midfield was so ravaged with injuries last year that winks and sissoko were getting no rest, lots more depth this year

Depending on the game will be 2 or 3 of ndombele, lo celso, sissoko, Winks, dier, skipp, with alli an option in a 3

Orny saying lo celso and sess are done is big, and I am really trying hard not to believe it but still a lot of smoke around dybala
