Boomer has worked extremely hard to build a morning show that is considered a big success. It may not be your cup of tea, but I don't think it is fair to question his effort and desire. He's worked really hard to get where he is - just because the style of the show isn't your thing - doesn't mean that's not the case.
I’ve listened to just about every type & variety of hockey media on radio, podcast, & audiobooks.

I’ve written, hosted, and produced radio shows before as well.

I actively seek it out sports listening of all types for humour, insight, or interest. I know it’s a gag, & I know getting up in the morning isn’t easy.

The only thing that makes the thing listenable & the one who totally deserves all & any credit is the producer, Jason Deforest.

Don’t give me crap about how hard Boomer works when he’s had someone like that behind him for close to a decade. Jason is doing the Lion’s share of the work. Don’t kid yourself, just because he makes it seem easy.

Still Boomer is the star & drives how the content is performed & the amount of creative effort he puts in is self evident. Good radio sounds like you’re eavesdropping on an interesting conversation. Their problem is that they rely on conversing (which is often just fine) about anything until it gets stale.

Then they beat the stale dead horse into the ground rather than curiously researching, seeking, and exploring new topics/ideas/concepts. Again this really was evident when they didn’t have the low hanging fruit of a negative topic.

Burke called them out on this frequently, because it’s true.

Pinder brought a curioud approach to the conversation & Boomer would ridicule it as schtick. This is also fine contrasting views enables some of the tension & drama that draws people to listen.

Still too many mornings I would listen & Rhett didn’t care, wasn’t heard, or didn’t want to be there & was non existent & Boomer would carry him.

It’s been a long time since the show was anything close to a must listen for me. I listened daily for a couple years, then it was just rinse & repeat.

Again, with out Jason the whole thing would be 1000 times worse.

Teaching matters and has real societal value. Radio hosting doesn't.

Send Logan Gordon on a rocket ship to the Sun.

Even when listening carefully, I can clearly understand about 50% of his mumbles.

Ha ha ha that's funny. My wife is a teacher. Last week while I worked everyday from 6 am to 5 pm, come home in a mad dash to make supper for two boys, be out the door in 45 minutes to take one, the other, or both to field lacrosse and finally put my legs up at 9 pm I was reminded constantly of the hardships of being a teacher every time she texted me a picture of her fine dining, ecyling, sailing, and generally living the hard life at the Okanagan. No idea why anyone would want to be a teacher especially when you factor in their pensions.

Are you serious? The average salary of a teacher in Calgary is 81K. Teachers in Calgary are among the highest paid in North America. Entitled much? Anyways.... that’s for another thread. A teacher comparing their salary/benefits/pension to that of a local radio host probably barely above the poverty line.... I’ve seen it all now.

Why? Just because I work a lot that doesn't mean she can't take advantage of her summers off.

I hate to pile on the guy because he's obviously new and is learning the trade. However, it's one thing to be bad at your job because of inexperience but it's entirely different if you have no tools for the job. In addition to his mumbling his voice cracks and the pitch is painful. Maybe he'll be a good producer or something but he should not be on-air. It's like a NHL player with weak ankles, poor hand-eye coordination and bad center of gravity.

Is he the guy that went on a tangent the other day about Dana White being at a CFL game? Good times. The best was when he complained that they should at least have some fighters there to sign autographs.

Narrator: They did.

I live in Northern Alberta and listen to the morning show fairly regularly via podcast, I really enjoyed listening to Warrener, I also really enjoy Boomer. I was pumped when I heard that Pinder was going to the afternoons because I don't listen to the afternoon show.

I hope they bring in another former NHLer to fill Warrener's spot, because I like hearing their insight.

It's not about being able to tell if someone is black, dude. It's more like 'black people are awesome and make everything better'.

Beyond that, presumably a non-white host would have a worldview shaped by different experiences.

Are we going to pretend Joe Sports, Rick Lafitte, Kevin Usselman, Mike Richards, Dave Rowe, Rob Kerr, Pat Steinberg, Andrew Walker, Bryn Griffiths, Ryan Pinder, Ryan Leslie, Peter Klein, Will Nault, Boomer, Loubardias, Wills or Kirsch are not all variously effective versions of the same guy? Do they come from vastly different backgrounds, or did they have the same experiences in different places?

I've been listening to this station for 16 years, and I can say for sure it's the second one. I'm sure there's an argument to be made that "only nerdy middle class white kids dream of going into Canadian sports radio".

I used to work at a car dealership that had no female sales associates for three and a half years. They would always give BS answers about how the clients prefer to talk to men. Never mind that almost half of the primary signatories on our deals were women. Finally they said "we should hire a woman". Lo and behold, not one week later there is a lady behind a desk selling cars. And she was terrific.

My point is, they should make the effort.

He does mind-numbing sports updates and a crazy awful ad for a car dealership.. I think it's Nissan.

Rips through the content before inviting listeners to "vst Caggry Nissan.ca" I would ask for my advertising dollars back if I owned the dealership.

I'll defer to Jiri re Boomer, since he is/was in the business, but Warrener always struck me as a lazy ex-jock who just mailed it in and contributed little, aside from an occasional locker room insight. I hope they can find some retired guy who is more studious/curious - I think Krahn would be good (not sure if he would be interested), don't know enough about Stajan. I get that they are pitching to the lowest common denominator, but it would be good to have some intelligence to set that off. Pinder was solid in that role. Richards worked because he managed to combine low-brow humour with some intelligence and ability. It's tough to find that if you are paying $15/hr to the next SAIT grad in line. I am assuming Warrener made good radio money, so hopefully there is a bit of a budget for a decent replacement.

A shtick? Wow, they really make it seem like theres been not much effort put in. Day after day. They are really good at talking about what they ate or what they might eat or what they like to eat though.
