Then, another member of this community police force apparently saw them by the garbage dump, but again they vanished before the guy could get the 200m over there. ..and after causing a stir and bringing in a bunch of resources, the RCMP have pulled out of that town saying there is no proof they were ever there.
Really hope there wasn't any hyperbole/grandstanding/outright deception by this group to bring them some sort of fame and attention to them in all this.

The band constable stopped them on the 22nd, before they were wanted and before the RCMP had issued descriptions. A constable doing a stop to check for booze entering a dry community wouldn’t have any reason to try and detain them at that point.
The sighing at the dump was reported by members of the Bear Clan, a volunteer group from Winnipeg. They are not band constables for Split Lake or Gillam.
The two instances aren’t some part of a conspiracy that would involve two separate groups from different parts of Manitoba working together to somehow grandstand.

Do the RCMP have anything like the HAWCS helicopter with the infrared and thermal imaging cameras? You’d think these guys would show up pretty clearly at night when it gets cold.

Yes, they have multiple helos including brand new airbus H145, as well as fixed wing air support HASP (High altitude surveillance plane) capabilities. They’ve now also called in the CAF Hercules SAR plane equipped with cutting edge tech as well. I’m guessing these two are the same temp as the ground aka dead.

If they are alive they might have a job waiting for them if they ever get out of jail.

You're going to get people that call in false tips just to mess with the police.

How much help are all those sensors going to be? Trying to look at thermal or anything else in those remote areas is tough. Some trees give off the same signature as a human.

I’ll be the first to admit I am no expert at thermal imaging, however I’d be shocked if trees gave off the same heat signature as a human.

If Predator taught me anything, it’s that trees don’t give off the same heat signature as people unless you’re covered in mud.

Maybe if the tree was kind of smouldering or something, and was heated to 98F. That could mess with things.

They don't, but they do give off heat and just about every species of plants give off a different signature, in order to hide from thermal imaging you need to become the same temperature as the invironment around you which would be nearly impossible, even trying to hide using these tinfoil space blankets will just make you stick out like a sore thumb in the woods because a large boulder would show more heat.
I suspect they haven't been found because there's a lot of space up there.

Apparently that tech doesn't work very well through much canopy. It would also detect animals. Most importantly, they have a helluva lot of ground to cover...no idea on the range/breadth an IR camera could detect at any given time, but you're still in needle in a haystack territory. Consider how difficult it can be for SAR teams to find people who actually want to be found...
Even if you happen to find two long/skinny heat blobs that you think are them, getting officers in position to visually confirm, let alone apprehend them is neither quick nor easy. Apparently a space blanket would probably defeat this tech, too - if they've planned this out, then they simply get under good cover and throw on their invisibility cloak if they hear rotors...

Are there any articles/photo galleries that show how the wilderness in that area is? I heard on the radio this morning someone talking about how the mosquitoes are so horrible that the bites can swell you eyes shut and your body can go into shock. Crazy.
Would be interesting to see some photos/videos of the area and just what they (including the searchers) are dealing with.

Basically a living hell, and that's what the Gilliam deputy mayor says who lives there.

I rememeber the mayor or a police officer describing the variety of flies they would be encountering and it reminded me of Tommy Lee Jones organizing the search in "The Fugitive".
