I agree -- I don't mind any of them. Only time I'll ever turn off 960 is if they're talking about wrestling or if it's Ferrall. Radio is a really hard medium to master and I find it unreasonable to get too worked up about free programming.

I still remember when Mike Richards just left one morning. His contract here was up, and he got a better offer out in Toronto so he went. Pretty much in the middle of a show. Pretty clear that the 960 management just wasn't going to pony up to keep him.
I imagine radio is a pretty thin business these days, pretty hard to pay all sorts of cash out and run whatever overhead they need with whatever bit of advertising they can cash in on. It's not like we pay to listen.
Rhett was junk as an analyst - lazy and very nearly stupid. What he was good it, and it is irreplaceable, was relating what it's like on the ice, in the dressing room etc. I thought his comments (and sometimes lack of comments) about Iginla were enlightening, things like that. 1st person perspective. But analysis? He was monosyllabic. "Gotta play harder than that to win." is not analysis. It might be true, but it's no kind of breakdown.

Maybe Noodles wants to be closer to home?
Long shot (and probably won't happen). He's built a pretty solid media personality reputation.

Maybe if Rogers would incentivize the positions more they would develop & retain better talent. What is stopping anyone in the position of Boomer of creating their own podcast to sell to advertisers in lieu of more money at the station? Of course in Boomers case... effort and desire are what would stop him.
The station has become stale because there is no growth that enables the research and insight listens value.
They basically alienated their own developed talent in Rob Kerr as insult to injury.
The station is completely out of ideas & void of creativity. This is why they struggle when they cant beat a negative story to death.

The putting in no effort thing is a shtick - one that you've bought into hook, line and sinker.
Boomer has worked extremely hard to build a morning show that is considered a big success. It may not be your cup of tea, but I don't think it is fair to question his effort and desire. He's worked really hard to get where he is - just because the style of the show isn't your thing - doesn't mean that's not the case.

That seems to be a schtick for male focused radio in the morning. There are many sports radio channels where I live, and all the morning shows seem to go for this caveman approach, for lack of a better word. Emotional takes, juvenile humor etc. I agree you cant conclude much about how hard theyre working from this approach. Which doesnt mean it cant get stale after a while.

I usually take mid July-mid September off listening to the FAN unless something Flames relates happens (like the Lucic deal).
Losing Warrener is not crippling but losing Pinder and Warrener is tough for the morning show. I do think moving Pinder to the afternoon was great. I also realized my beef with the afternoon show was entirely Rob Kerr. I couldn’t stand him or Steinberg when they were together. Now that Pinder is with Steinberg I have changed my opinion on Pat he is much more tolerable

Neither surprised nor sad that Rhett is leaving 960. The Morning Show is crap - actually most of what they have on is crap with endless and mindless babbling..the station has become virtually unlistenable to me. Good thing I no longer live in Calgary, so don't have to put up with it too often.
I'll tune in from time to time when the Flames have "big news", but CP provides better insight and most of the clips of people I want to hear from....

No, but I get out of bed and drive somewhere just about every day. Also, I am over ten years old. I like Fan 960 in the morning, I'm not ready for AC/DC before 9 o'clock, and I can't stand listening to stuff like 770 mostly. The 960 morning show is undemanding and occassionally funny.

In a world that over complicates things. It's funny how bitter people are over the small stuff. Either way I like the nonsense. It's nice to hear people not take everything so serious all the time

Klein is the best talent the station has produced in probably a decade.
You know what they could really use? Less white people. There's have to be a few black guys in this city who wanna talk hockey for a few hours a day. How about Harnarayan Singh? They probably can't afford him.
I'll tell you what: when every single personality on your station since its inception comes from the exact same background (white, middle class, city dwelling, outdoorsy), it's gonna start to feel stale.
Hey Kirsch. Hire a brother. Just to say you did. I've been to SAIT's orientation night, I promise they're there.

I just don't understand why someone would want to do that job with that many hours for that little pay. To turn something your passionate about into a dull job to strangle the joy out of it? Is it the modicum of fame? Being famous would suck. But wanting to be famous and only being like Z list famous would really suck.

Ask teachers the same thing (unfortunately). Passion matters.
