Please tell me we don’t have a city-approved $500M price tag for a vaguely-detailed, but well-lit pedestrian intersection.
No renderings or design concepts will be released until the RFP process is complete, where a prime consultant is selected. It's possible Rossetti has the inside track, but because there's public money involved in the construction of this facility (and CMLC is involved), it will go to an open and public bidding process.

Expecting complete renderings at this point is very premature. That's not how this stuff works.

So you’re telling me that huge teams of architects and engineers haven’t been working on this for free for the last few months!? Well that’s just crazy.

I love this idea.

New arenas are nice and fancy, but I quite liked the Dome. Granted, the first and only time visiting was a few games a couple years ago; and I'm also the kind of guy to really miss The Joe. Unless the on-ice product is better (washrooms, etc are always going to suck), I don't love the idea of paying more for a game when the walls, food, and signage are all that's changed on my night out.

However, that inverted bowl could make for the best seats in any NHL house. My biggest fear with a new arena (haven't seen Detroit's new digs yet) was what I saw in Edmonton. I was miles away from the ice, and we didn't have too bad of seats in the lower bowl. A fancy building with worse & more expensive seats isn't a good recipe.

The inverted bowl has me quite excited. It would make Calgary one of the loudest buildings in the league because the cheering would be right on-top of the ice. It could be something absolutely unique, and absolutely incredible.

It definitely would be loud as hell!

I keep picturing this having an awesome colosseum-like feel with the feeling that people are almost standing over the arena. It's going to be nuts, and I can only imagine what it'll be like for the opposition

Some good stuff at 1:02

I like the inverted bowl. I also think they could try some tiers with different types of seating/food options - like mini-club areas. Family zones, etc.

Done right, the inverted bowl would be insane. I hope they don't skimp on the budget and shave off much of the cool trimmings. The shelf life is 35 years - do it right!!

Has it been confirmed that we're getting the inverted bowl design? It seems as though we're the only fan base that's been discussing this design for close to a decade.

And it is almost guaranteed that the city would not rezone for a stadium.

The bus barns land is the most valuable land in Victoria Park. The city is looking to maximize property tax uplift from the event center.

Building a stadium on the prime land that will contribute little or no property taxes for the city hurts the economic benefit the city projected for the event center and CRL.

No, it's not confirmed. I'm sure Rossetti has sold it on the CSEC, and if they end up getting the job though, it's very likely it happens.

No nothing has been confirmed yet. It will almost-certainly be one of the options under consideration.

Out of curiosity, is the Saddledome's upper bowl unique in the NHL? Great views from the upper bowl are a rarity, so I wonder if Calgary's appetite for something like this could be linked to what we appreciate in our current experience.

i dunno, the dome is a library most of the time, i dont think the arrangement of the seats is going to do much for noise unless they give everyone megaphones

^ The Dome wasn't much of a library last year when the Flames were rolling

One thing to keep in mind is that while Rossetti may have been a favorite of the Flames, now that CMLC is in charge of the design and implementation, they may or may not feel the same way.

I think it's an interesting nonetheless concept. My biggest fear though is that it will reduce affordability even more than a typical new stadium.

the thing about the inverted dome i find appealing, is not only the improved distance for those in the upper tier, but that there appears to be a fairly significant reduction in the building street scale and volume of the enclosure.

the former provides a much better chance to engage with the street while the latter could potential mean lower operating costs and material build out.

its a very interesting concept... presumably there are other innovations is arena design that the other teams will bring forward as well.
