Because the event centre hasn't been designed yet.

Barry Munro on why the facility fee (ticket tax) is only 2%: essentially they negotiated a lower facility fee in exchange for more money upfront from CSEC.

Probably wants to normalize the concept of subsidized arenas.

Then what is the point of a rendering? I would have to assume they are in the "ballpark" of what it would look like before they start publicly displaying stuff. If they learned nothing from the Next debacle...

So they could show something while actually showing nothing.

Renderings are not typically meant to perfectly depict a building, but instead are used to convey an idea, or mood. In this case, they're trying to market this new arena as something that will activate a pretty dead area of what should be the core of the city, hence the rendering showing a crowded avenue.

They are presenting the idea of the event centre, and how it will impact the surroundings.
Kind of pointless to focus on what the building looks like, when that is yet to be determined.

He yaps about everything. He's a prime example of people turning in to idiots on Twitter. I have huge respect for him and the life he's built, but on Twitter he's a complete clown.

It is a fact. You think they're building this thing to improve the fan experience? And I'm not a STH so if they increase them 99%, awesome, good for them.

Well, he does live in Calgary, so he has as much right to yap about it as any of us do.
I have predicted in the past, and still stand by the prediction, that he will be part of the Flames ownership group before the new building is open.
As I understand it, he owns a very small percentage of the Predators, so that shouldn't be hard for him to sell. Also, Edwards is the only current owner who's under 65, so the ownership group is due for some younger blood.

It is not a fact.
You may turn out to be right, but let's try to present opinions appropriately, and not as 'facts'.
Also, it doesn't sound like you think it's awesome.

Unless there have been some serious changes of heart, it is going to get passed.

It will pass with an 11-4 or 10-5 vote, is my guess.

You're right, it's not a fact, it's the overwhelmingly likely scenario. 20% is typically in the lower end of increases you see when teams move into new buildings. In a bizarre way if you're a STH the worst case scenario is they win the Cup the year before. Then 40% or more will absolutely be in play.
And since I don't intend on going to many games unless someone else is paying for it, if they can increase it 500% and people pay it then more power to them. Capitalism at it's finest.

Wilson is 62 himself. But it'd make sense, he has a pretty lengthy history working with Edwards.

Your right, even if the property was to appreciate who would buy it? To be purposed as...condos, office space, warehouse storage? Is there any precedent of a stadium being sold especially if it does not come with a team?
Honestly curious, but this appears to be paper worth(less). Even if the event center becomes like a mini MSG.
