BREAKING: There will be no time extension for more public consultations. The arena vote timing was agreed upon in a tri-party agreement, the city manager has informed council #yyccc in a letter.

Get this thing done already. It's been 12 years and we haven't even reached the starting line yet.

And this morning, hearing from Brett Wilson just makes me realise the sales pitch that we're getting here. Now the new event center is going to be worth $1.5bn in 35 years and the city gets that today for the low low price of $275m It's incredible really how generous these people are to the city. We all know, if that was actually the case and actually an amazing deal, private money dive in an invest the cash. It's not though, so they aren't.

With that kind of return Brett should finance it himself!
EDIT:That's about 5% growth over 35 years. Not great, but not bad. Unfortunately it ignores the fact that, like the Saddledome, that's not how it works.

Yeah exactly. We know that in 35 years the team will be begging for upgrades and more public money, or a new arena again. The new place is effectively worth zero at that point. And frankly they know that...it's just a sales pitch (that has somehow worked).

Wooley now looking for a fire alarm to pull, or maybe having a fake medical incident to stall the vote even further?

I just discovered this, but MSG is exempt from property tax, around $40MM a year. This was put in place in 1982 when the Rangers and Knicks threatened to leave. The more you know......Vote this thing in and let's move on.

You'll notice they haven't actually cut their prices in response. The Flames increases will start at 20% and depending on what happens the year before could grow to be just as big as Edmonton's.

How long is this thing going to go? I would have thought all this information would have been presented already?
Boring.

Why do renderings have to be so ####ty? Have some clean pics of the exterior from several angles without 1000 people all over the place.
