Vegas Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee announced today, July 23, the following roster transactions: the team has signed defenseman Deryk Engelland to a one-year contract through the 2019-20 season and the team has acquired goaltender Garret Sparks from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Vegas Golden Knights forward David Clarkson and a fourth-round selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

That’s awesome, always loved Engelland’s game and will forever remember him taking on two Canucks at once! Atta boy Eng!

Really hoping that Lucic is up front what Engelland was on defense.

Still pretty effective at 37. That's a bargain deal.

I am always happy to hear Deryk Engelland will continue to collect an NHL paycheck. That dude is the truth.

seems like a good deal for Vegas. He seems like more than just a hockey player. I believe he did some things after the Vegas shooting to help out, can't quite remember what right now.

Engelland is still an effective 6th-7th d-man. While he might have gotten a little more if he went elsewhere, i doubt it would have been much more than a million. This is why I think Stone is untradeable. Only options for Stone are he is on Calgary roster or they buy him out.

Not only did he whip those Canucks asses, he looked so cool doing it.

Some heart and soul guys really stick with you, McGrattan, Stajan, Engelland, etc. Good for him getting another deal in the city he lives in year round.

I'm surprised he wasn't named Captain.

He has been such a good deal for Vegas for each of the last 3 years. And he has had UFA rights at the end of each season too while signing these team friendly deals.

He has lived in LV for more than a decade now. It is interesting to consider whether Engelland would still be playing hockey were it not for the VGK expansion. I have my doubts that at his age and at this point in his career he has any interest at all in playing elsewhere.

Good for Engelland. I'm a big fan of bonus contracts. I feel it motivates players to perform at their best more consistently. I wish more GM's signed players to them.

I loved Engelland since he was a Pen, was super excited when he played here, and was sad when he left for Vegas.

One of the good guys in the game.

Other than bonuses paid under ELC, only players who are 35+ can have bonuses in them.

That's why they are rare.
