Going to play the first 4 holes, three times, at Mickelson National on Sunday!
Has anybody else been out there yet taking advantage of the free golf?

I'm interested to hear about your experience. I have been receiving the emails from them but I worry about the potential of a high pressure sales environment once you show up for your free holes. I have a feeling it will be like the typical timeshare experience.

Mickelson National has been promoting free golf on 4 holes that are ready to play. They allow you to play the 4 holes three times once a week until August 2nd. Power carts are also only $10.50/12 holes or $5.25/player.

absolutely zero sales pitch at mickelson national.
course was beautiful, great shape. very sculpted course and tons of tee boxes. playing from the tips is long tough course.

Where is the mickleson? I’ve been trying to figure that out for a while.
Shot 88 yesterday at Speingbank. Tee’d off at 6:04 and still got 18 in. Was a great round. 4 lost balls though for ####s sake.

I think it's on the other side of the Number 1 highway from Calaway Park.

88 with four balls lost is really impressive.

Might have played my best round ever... outside those 4 errant shots. Happy and frustrated at the same time.

Yeah, lost balls are annoying any time, but they make you want to throw your clubs away during a great round. 4 and I'd just drive my cart through the pro shop and loudly announce my retirement from golf. Still a great score though.

I shot 85 at crowsnest (two lost balls)and 89 at serenity, everything else has been crap. More than most people I just can't for the life of me shoot a decent round with slow pace of play (which seems to be everywhere this season for some reason). I just can't stay in it, end up standing around yapping and sipping too much beer and all that, I guess.

I despise slow play. I'd rather not play than play a 4.5 hour round.
Last 2 rounds have been great for me though. 3.5 hours last night and 3.5 hours at shagganapi (hockey wind-up) on saturday afternoon of all places. Weather must have caused a bunch of cancellations.

I know I'm a total Cottonwood fanboy, but not once over almost 20 rounds this year has it been over 4.25hrs. Most are under 4, and that's walking. They have their spacing worked out beautifully.
Also with all the rain that course is in UNREAL shape. I've been doing things like putting off the approach fairway....I'd say that it's a better surface than most city run greens. The greens themself are pristine and lightning fast The club championship is this week, and with round the clock moisture, fertilizer, and a longer than normal rough, it's VERY challenging. Not to mention pin placements that, if I had to guess, were put there by a grumpy old man who really doesn't like humanity.
I've been as low as 42 over 9, and as high as 60. It's never the same.

That's also the benefit of being a private course though. You don't get the random terrible golfers that suck and take forever.
The weather has been great for courses though. Everything is nice and lush now. Even when we played Shag on the weekend the greens were in great shape along with the fairways.

LOL absolutely. Almost all the members there are on the same page. Get moving or GTFO. Pretty impressive when you consider the average age is likely 60+; the oldtimers all play at a pretty quick pace considering the vast majority of them walk.
I'm playing somewhere else Friday and I'm kind of dreading it.
