I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.
CSEC will be granted the option to acquire land (Enoch Sales house) from CMLC in the Rivers District based on the value prior to creation of the event committee. This option will expire when CSEC moves in to the event centre.
CSEC will be granted the option to acquire bus barn land if the city makes it available for development. Value is current value price and this option will expire 10 years after CSEC moves in to the event centre.
I knew property development was an integral part of the flames side of the equation. It's why they pushed west village, less restrictions, more room for them to shape their investment. This is a good medium.
Its also a shame that the CSEC doesn't own more land around the event center so they could have participated in even more of the upside of building the facility. The biggest winners are the private developers that own land around the new event center but will contribute $0 towards.
There should have been a Community Revitalisation Levy in place. Is there one?
There is a CRL the rivers district to pay for things like the 17th ave expansion and others. That money doesn’t go to the Arena though. If you look back at the original deal the city said it needed to spend about 180 million on the area to develop it with or without Ann arena as the anchor tenant.
Bunk would be the guy to give details on what eventually got passed though
That land is most likely privately held so I don’t know what it could be used for here.
Whatever, I’m just saying.

Fun fact: When the Corral opened, most people HATED the name. So much so that a couple sportswriters refused to even call the arena by its name until the Stampede and Calgary Stampeders threatened to revoke their press access.
Really? Why such hatred? I dont think it's bad at all and it is unique. I've always liked that calgary's arena had a more unique name than the rest.

Watching the Council debate tonight makes me wonder if this ever gets to a vote next week.
I think the vote gets delayed, it gets picked apart over the summer, and falls apart in the fall.
It’s amazing. Very entertaining!

Pretty lame if they replace a building as distinguishable as the Saddledome with a very boring rectangle of a building
I doubt the artist rendering we're seeing now will look anything like the finished product.
It's interesting though the Rossetti company is part of the design consulting process. We could very well see something innovative, if not architecturally interesting.

Druh Farrell is dipping into the semantics bin tonight. I haven't been closely following City Council's ruminations on the topic; I take it that she is opposed to the project?

Makes you wonder how much a modern Stampeders football stadium would cost, and if CSEC make an ask.
Hamilton's and Regina's were about $190 million CDN. The one in Winnipeg about $275 million CDN.
I dont know, but I would hope that since this project seems promising to go ahead it could conceivably operate as a blueprint or precedent for future deals or agreements between the two parties.

Druh Farrell symbolizes everything that is wrong with our current council. Not sure how she continues to get elected.

As much as I would love a new stadium for the Stamps, I don’t think we will get until It’s necessity (McMahon becomes condemned). That’s a lot of money for 10 games in a year in a league that will likely die with our parents generation.
