I’m actually reasonably satisfied that this is a fair deal for the city. I’m concerned about this in combination with the uncertainty around the green line, but in isolation, this looks good for the city and Flames.

Frankly I am surprised on the positive reaction in this thread, I was expecting to come into this thread hearing from 50% of posters saying how bad this deal is for the city. Good to see.
No property taxes for CSEC but they pay all expenses with running the arena.

I have full faith it’ll be best in class in terms of the building and how it anchors a district. All this has paid off tremendously so far.
Look forward to working in this project and district approvals in my job, which I start at the City tomorrow. :-)

 A great day.

Congratulations dude, the city (and the project) is lucky to have you!

Has anyone seen anything on what the Stampede's involvement is? The land is "Stampede land" which the city expropriated for them years ago. Is the city paying the Stampede for the land? Concerned that Stampede is going to make $ for sitting on their butts as far as their promised development of that land.

Also interesting that there is doesn't seem to be taking a loan and then paying it back via the ticket tax.
While the city's facility fee is essentially a ticket tax, there is no mention of a loan being taken out.

The CalgaryNext and 2017 proposals had clearly marked loans repaid by ticket taxes.

This is even better than 50/50.
City and CSEC each pay 50% up front but then each side looks to get roughly 28% back (over 35 years mind you) through the facility fee.

Is there anything on a football field or this a separate discussion. Sorry if I missed something but couldn't find anything on this but know there was a discussion around a field house at one point.

Olympic Saddledome, Canadian Airlines, Pengrowth, Scotiabank. the Dome was the Dome.

There's something to be said for an iconic name. I think the key here is staying away from the more boring suffixes - "Place", "Center", "Arena", etc that every arena seems to get eventually - it's got to be a bit more unique, think "Gardens", "Coliseum", or "Forum". Something that sounds good alone after "the".

From previous news, the Stampede will now get to use the Saddledome Lands for something else.

My understanding is that the Stampede is basically trading the Event Center land for the land that the Saddledome is built on
