King says that the arena will be built from the inside out with a focus on fans getting to and from their seats.
He also says they have designs and concepts for the arena that are not fully fleshed out.

There's going to be some sort of outdoor gathering place component to the project. A public square?

This is phenomenal news. It shows that proper process is needed to get good results. I am glad the City rejected the previous proposal. Great leadership by Davison in setting the right tone and right process to have productive, collaborative talks. Bravo for having CMLC at the centre of it all to ensure what’s actually built will be something not just good for a team but for the community, district and the city at large. I have full faith it’ll be best in class in terms of the building and how it anchors a district. All this has paid off tremendously so far.
Look forward to working in this project and district approvals in my job, which I start at the City tomorrow. :-)
A great day.

Has anyone had time to compare all the various inputs to the Calgary Next proposal? How much better a deal is this for Calgary?
“Gathering Place” sounds like an attempt to create a Jurassic Park.
“Event Center” sounds like a place where Tony Robbins makes people walk through hot coals.

Good deal, hopefully the idiots in council don't screw this up. Most Calgarians will still be against the project but if we held a referendum for everything nothing would be built in this city.
Wonder what the % the facilty fee will be per ticket.

Well that deal was supposedly the city paying $225m and they didn't want to pay more than a third. So in that respect it's questionable.
At the same time though, the city gets some money here from that ticket levy, which appears to more than cover it.

As someone who was bitching about this on page 2, I have to say I think a 50/50 split between the Flames and the city seems like a pretty good deal in my books.
