Did some of you actually watch Lucic play last season? The guy is sloooooooow and didn't give a rats arse lumbering around the ice. One game in Edmonton he took an idiotic penalty just so he could get out of the game. Now I get it, the Oil will suck the life out of any player so I guess it's possible Lucic finds a new passion for hockey and becomes a decent player. But he's still gonna be slow as frozen whale ####.
Now if this was only a deal to get Neal out of town then okay, gotta do what you gotta do but this talk of Lucic actually being a good addition to the team, hmmmm. Suppose a week ago someone said, hey you would what would be cracking deal? Neal for Lucic plus a 3rd rounder somehow I doubt anyone here would have said yes, I love that get it done Tre.
I get what your saying, but....and its a big but. What if Lucic has a massive chip on his shoulder and surprises everyone and resurrects his game.
Worst case, he beats the crap out of the losers who slash Johnny alla time.

Buyout looks better if you just look at 1 year. 8 years of 1.9 wasted cap is tough to swallow
Look at the oilers. 4.9 mil wasted cap. Buyout neal next summer it goes to 6.6. Plus a neal buyout next summer is 1.9 wasted for entire McDavid deal. I really hope neal doesn't bounce back. They are killing themselves buying out their garbage yearly.
Throw on 750k to 1.9 mil too. Just terrible cap management
I don’t care how this deal looks for the Oilers. That isn’t really relevant. The only comparison that matters here is Calgary before and Calgary after.
Is Calgary better off. I’d argue our current window we need to Maximize is to the end of Gaudreau’s deal and in that frame work 1.9 million boat ancho is better than a 5.25 million boat anchor.
This deal sucks... have to burn a expansion draft protection slot, take on a buyout proof contract for a measly 350K in cap savings and a highly conditional 3rd round pick. Blah.
That’s where a buyout works better. A 3.5 million player plus a 2 million dollar cap hit is better than the current situation for the next 5 years.
I’m not overly upset but I think the trade does not make sense.
We don't know the whole situation;
Maybe the Neal's factor and his "lack of" participation was a bigger distraction during the playoffs. During the playoffs the team was unhinged and unfocused while only a handful of players put in the effort. If some of your key guys don't put in the effort it makes it harder for the rest of the team to overcome hurdles.

Then I will be doing a happy jig and laughing at Oilers fans. Well laughing even more.

This sounds like Neal to a tee. So what's your point?

Alot of my family are leafs fans and I argued years ago retaining salary on a kessel deal for that long was dumb. Response I got was leafs will be rebuilding for years it won't matter. Seems to matter now
I agree the flames are set up to win now. But we could be wrong and you can't completely disregard wasting cap space for 8 years. If the plan is to buyout in 2 years saving 500k now helps. Lucic bounces back at all maybe he can be moved with 500k retained salary. Buying out neal now is automatic 1.9 mil wasted for 8 years. Imo it not smart to consider that for at least 2 years
