That statement fits exactly with what James Neal was here. Do you honestly think that Neal will fare better in Lucic's spot? He thought he was mistreated by this organization and got moody about it- he is in for a world of hurt in Edmonton.
|
Well Lucic couldn't handle a bottom 6 role in Edmonton, I think Neal could do that.

Yay once again For The Oilers! Lucic could also be a really valuable player for the Flames on the bottom six

That conditional pick better be a first and that better be a huge Retention for the purposes of re-signing Tkachuk et al, what a gross idea Lucic in Flames Silks is, the heartless playoff series soured me a lot on this team, picking up Oilers scraps might push me to NBA full time

While I wait for the two ativan i just took to kick in, I am thinking that Tre has clearly got some other #### teed up. I don't get this move at all unless we freed up a couple mil in cap space.
Edit: I don't even think Lucic could make the roster given who we have here. Yikes.
Tre is the only GM who went into the offseason thinking "I need to get Milan here for us to take the next step and become cup contenders"?

|
The max they can retain is $3M. Rumours are far less ($600K).
So the Flames save about $350K, and get a pick. They can trade Lucic if they can find a buyer or demote Lucic (which buries a little over $1M) if they want.

Yeah, it's seven million dollars over the remaining contract that the owners will save. Lucic's signing bonus for the year has already been paid, and the next three years he makes less than his cap hit.
For the fans that doesn't matter but after eating millions already because of Treliving's buyouts they are probably much happier with this solution.
They're both useless players at the point however. You could always hope for a one season bonus like Wideman had during his five years, but that's it. Hopefully the pick is decent and this doesn't hurt us in the expansion draft.

Lucic has a spot in our lineup if he isnt producing points, Neal didn't. Who bounces back better, we will see but Neal was clearly not happy since he wasn't gifted the top spot and never felt he had to earn it. As for Lucic, it will be interested to see how he plays when he is happy and enjoying hockey as he clearly wanted out for some time.

this is the worst. Usually even if we make a bad trade I can convince myself that it could work out. I cant do it with this one at all. FML

Flames trade Neal for Lucic. Oilers retain salary on Lucic and send conditional pick

Well it was 3 - 2... so no?
Do you mean 2 - 0 lead? If so... then yes, but that has nothing to do with Lucic being awful at hockey now (he wasn't in 2011)

I doubt it’s a first, maybe a third both contracts are bad

I still don't see any way Lucic leaves himself open to being sent to the AHL.

Won't happen because we traded back Neal. That decreases the retention and conditional pick significantly, unfortunately.

I foresee a big Flames press conference early next week:
"We would like to announce that we have reached a deal with the City to fund the construction of a new arena! ...and we traded for Lucic.
We will not be taking any questions."
