With the NMC gone and a lower cap hit Lucic is actually tradeable... wouldn't be surprised to see him moved before the summer is done.
Edit: didn't think about Oilers cap situation... this may actually just be a #### trade. I hope Tre has something else cooking though.

Or as other posts have mentioned, Lucic could be traded to another team who needs to meet the cap floor and then bought out.

All dependent on the NMC being waived.

He could also be exposed in the expansion draft.

Okey. Here's the skinny the way I see it...
This is an acceptable deal if all of these are true:

1: The Flames don't have to honor the NMC
2: The Oilers are retaining significant $$
3: The conditional pick is sufficiently high

Lucic's base contract is IMO the worst in the NHL but if the NMC won't screw us in the expansion draft, the salary doesn't screw our cap situation worse then Neal's did, and the pick is good enough to mitigate the risk of Lucic's near buyout proof deal then I'm okey with it.

How does it affect Anderson?

If they are going the 7-3-1 route they would have already had to protect Hanifin, Valamaki and one of Anderson and Kylington. So doesn't really change anything, Flames still likely lose a young defenseman.

I think there must have been more to that rumor that the time James spent away from the team wasn't only injury related last season.
As long as the NMC is waived forever and it has no expansion draft ramifications, I am ok with this.

That doesn't deal with this situation at all. That's an involuntary loss of the NMC. This is a waiver situation. Lucic can voluntarily agree to whatever he wants.

The player can still decide to waive it completely if negotiated. I’m maintaining faith.

Neal's bad year last year is unrecoverable.

So literally the same thing as a NMC? The Flames have to hope Lucic waives? They are not in control?

No, he apparently has already agreed to waive it permanently. Or at least for the Flames.
