I'd probably do Brodie and Bennett for Nuge and a pick. Brodie has one more season left to UFA, Nuge has two. After Bennett gets signed through arbitration, we would likely be saving a bit of money since Nuge is only at 6 million. Edmonton gets a better blueliner, and Calgary gets a true 2nd line center. The pick is a wild card though.

Thoughts?

Does a NMC carry over to a new team if he waives it in the original trade?

I believe the team can decide if they want to honour it or not.

NSH didn't with Subban's.

The clause can travel with the player even if he consents to being traded or is claimed on waivers
This requires that the acquiring team sign an addendum to the contract ensuring that the clause does in fact travel with the player (written by the player's agent)
If the acquiring team refuses to sign the addendum, and the player waives his clause anyway, at that point the clause may be nullified
If the player is traded before the clause takes effect, the acquiring team can opt to void the clause

No interest in trading Bennett and Brodie (a player they desperately need) for a guy nicknamed “the tenderness”

That's an easy question to answer.

They don't, unless they are sitting around dreaming up ways to help Calgary.

Since I am bored and it is lunch. What about this

Oilers - Neal, retain Lucic 10%
Flames - JP, retain 10% Lucic
3rd Team - 1st Oilers pick, 1st Flames pick, Lucic (20% retained and NMC kapput)

I could see the trade being Neal for Russell. It could allow the Flames to trade Brodie for cap relief and Hamonic for a forward.

Stepping back from all the big proposals for a second, if there is something brewing between the two I could foresee it being something minor like Czarnik for Cave and a low pick. Edmonton was pretty gung ho about him before he signed with the Flames, as I recall.

I'm going to get killed for saying this, but I wouldn't mind a trade centering on Neal for Lucic/Puljujarvi. I know how unpopular Looch is here, but aside from his contract, he can still be an effective player-think of what his presence would do for guys like Chucky and Benny, they could run amok and not worry as much.He will still hit and fight, which Neal wasn't willing to do with any consistency-and for all the talk about Looch's skating, I bet he beats Neal in a straight line race. He would help Johnny's confidence as well.

Both players could benefit from a change of scenery, although I have no Illusions about Looch returning to being a 60 pt player. I think playing for Peters on this team in this situation would help him. As for Poolparty, I'm sure Peters and the coaching staff could help him rebound-he's too talented.

Anyway, flame away.....

That is only if the clause has not taken effect yet.

In Subban's case, his NMC kicked in on July 1, but he has traded on June 29. As a result, it was entirely up to Nashville to decide whether or not to honour the NMC and they didn't.

If the clause has taken effect, then it is apparently up to the mutual agreement between the player and the team.

Cap Friendly has this in their FAQs about NMC/NTCs:
Quote:
The clause can travel with the player even if he consents to being traded or is claimed on waivers
  • This requires that the acquiring team sign an addendum to the contract ensuring that the clause does in fact travel with the player (written by the player's agent)
  • If the acquiring team refuses to sign the addendum, and the player waives his clause anyway, at that point the clause may be nullified
The CBA itself doesn't say anything about that, but there could be an addendum or something out there that clarifies these rules. I doubt Cap Friendly would have just made them up.

If the player has a limited NTC/NMC and is traded to one of the teams that doesn't require his approval (like Kadri going to Colorado), presumably, the clause will follow the contract whether the team signs the addendum or not. Otherwise, that would be an easy way around the limited no trade list --- Toronto could have done a three-way deal where they move Kadri to a team that's not on his "no trade" list, then that team decides not to honour the clause and flips him to Calgary. That way, the Flames and Leafs could have completed the trade they wanted to make and the third team gets a draft pick or something for facilitating it.

I would like to see this swap:

CGY offers Mike Stone + ~~Adam Ruzicka
EDM offers Zack Kassian

Calgary gets a forward who can replace Hathaway and over 1.5M in cap space, Edmonton gets a steady RHS dman and a decent B or C prospect. They they parlay that into a Larsson etc trade for a forward.

Reading the comments to that tweet (Post 322) if the Flames did a deal involving Bennett for Lucic, even with Puljujarvi coming back I'm turning in my Flames card. Its not that I'm a huge Bennett fan, but that would just signal to me that Tre has lost it.

Because he's been waiting for his trade request to go through since Hall and Eberle got theirs.

Yeah, agreed. Bennett would be one of the last guys I would want on the Nucks or Oilers. Only trade with Lucic I would buy is Neal for Lucic + PJ.

I can’t imagine Tre taking on Lucic’s contract.

I absolutely can imagine Holland wanting Brodie or another of our defenders. They simply don’t have the assets to give up in the forward ranks though. That lineup is ugly. JP is the only expendable intriguing option but he doesn’t get them any of our D at this point, especially with the complete lack of leverage.

It maybe gets them Mike Stone, who has a history with their new coach. Could be something there.

Does Edmonton risk trading Pulju to the Flames though? Lots of talk that he’s being chained to a package with Lucic, but there’s also a chance he could come back to bite them (however small that chance may be). They may want to trade him out of the division, if not the conference, if they can. Ottawa might be willing to oblige, given where they’re at.
