I think we should start planning the 15th Anniversary tribute logo we were talking about earlier.
My God, has it been that long????

I'm still trying to figure that out. It was supposed to be in a thread about Monahan.

You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I'm telling you why
Kevin Lowe is staying in town.

He's been around forever,
What are they thinking?
I guess they think he knows
A thing or two 'bout winning

How in the hell did you even manage to find a ten year old thread?

Isn't it a tradition in some places to celebrate big occasions by offering pardons and commuting sentences?

I didn't. It found me. It was destiny. I was posting in a thread about Sean Monahan, and next thing I know a decade old thread about the northern black hole appears, and my entirely unrelated post is there, instead of the intended thread. The hockey gods wanted it to be resurrected. I was merely their instrument.

Poolparty's agent takes a shot at the Oilers development system in some comments about his player:

Quote:
“We all have our responsibilities towards a young athlete, right? Not just as an agent, I have a responsibility. But the teams that draft these guys too, you know, they have some responsibilities for these guys too, you know. So when you draft a guy even if he’s a high, high, high pick and expectations are really high, you kind of have to help these guys to become as good an athlete and player as they can be, right? They need support and help. Not just like, ‘Well, we drafted you, you do whatever we want, right?”. That’s the way I see it, how it should be, right? It’s a two-way street. It’s up to the athlete too. It’s not just a one-way street.”
Who would have thought that a team needs to help a young player become a good player? Not the Oilers.

Wasn't Holland trying to call their bluff about playing in Europe a few weeks ago? If anything the more time that goes by, the more it looks like the player will never report to play for this organization.

What is his incentive to report? He knows his value is at an all time low, the Oilers roster got worse this year (somehow), and the club isn't doing anything to help him improve (instead they are just letting local media roast him.)

If his goal is to play in the NHL as a productive forward somewhere, it would seem to me that playing literally anywhere else is better than Edmonton. I think it was foolish for Holland to even label it a bluff- at this point there is almost nothing that the oilers could offer him to help him achieve his goal. It's not a bluff but the logical first step for him.

I think the only bluff he could be making is with sewering his NHL career. Both sides have made it very clear that they are finished with each other, so I don't know what else his bluff could possibly entail?

Besides sabotaging the kids career, all that I can think of is that they're trying to save face with the fans. Paint the kid as difficult at the expense of his value, and 'get what you can' for this failed asset. "Not our fault, look at him". Trouble with that theory is that it doesn't make any sense for Holland to be caught up in it... unless he doesn't have all that autonomy he was touting

Of course, Holland may still make additions to the team — and he’s got one factor in his favour. The lower cap this year combined with the harsh reality of the 2013 CBA cap restrictions kicking in hard means that many teams (Vancouver, Boston, Winnipeg, Toronto, Vegas, Pittsburgh and the New York Rangers) will have trouble signing all their key players and fitting under the cap. The pressure on them will increase as the season approaches and they’re still not cap compliant. It might well serve Holland best to wait, wait, wait and see what he can squeeze out of one of these teams in August or early September. A handful of NHL teams have already brought in useful players and given up little in return, save for non-first round draft picks. I expect Holland will be able to do the same.

Annually we see far reaches sold as an optimistic future, but they're hitting new levels lately. Only ONE team on that list has LESS cap space than the Oilers themselves. All of the teams on that list are icing better teams than the Oilers. So which one of these teams are the Oilers in a position to squeeze?

The Oilers have $3,933,001 in cap space, an atrocious roster and fans expecting a playoff run. Any moron that's paid a small amount of attention to the Oilers situation should know this, and they're not exactly in 'take your bad contract' territory.

Has he shared any actual examples I've missed? I just scanned the teams he mentioned and I can't come up with a single example of something that would legitimately work. What >$4M package are you taking off teams for draft picks? How does that fix your team? Are you still making the playoffs with this >$4M castoff?
