				 Heat signs undrafted RW Jeremy McKenna to an AHL deal

			 News UpdateEric Francis  @EricFrancisnow
 To clarify, like Alex Gallant, Jeremy McKenna’s contract is indeed an AHL deal, not a two-way.
Eric Francis
@EricFrancis
The #Flames have signed undrafted RW Jeremy McKenna to a two-way deal, following a strong prospects camp. He finished 5th in QMJHL scoring this year, playing on a line w Flames 1st rounder Jakob Pelletier. Had coffee w him this morn in his native PEI. Story to follow.

			Good way to fill up the prospect cupboard. Does he have any junior eligibility left? Or will he be in the AHL next year?

He can go back to the QMJHL as an overager, but is also eligible to play in Stockton this year.

			Some sites say born in Summerside PEI.
 sureLoss (and eliteprospects) says Canmore...so it's Canmore.

 Why didn't he get drafted? Seems like a decent prospect even at a late round.

			Would imagine he's AHL bound. Can return as overager but not much left to prove in the Q IMO.

My impression, with my limited knowledge, was he was born in PEI, then the family moved to Alberta shortly thereafter.

From Francis' article

		| Although listed as being from nearby Summerside, P.E.I., McKenna was born in Canmore, Alta., where his parents owned and operated the Wendy’s franchise along the Trans-Canada highway. It was there his dad taught him to play on the outdoor rink, inspired by a 2004 Flames run to the finals he recalls being enthralled with, even at age five. | |
