If that 2015 class really steps up this year it will fortify this club's renewed ability to draft and develop late round talent- a hallmark of long term contenders. Keep up the good work!
Really only one of the 2015 picks listed was a 'late rounder'. But the fact it was a solid draft without a 1st rounder is still something to take note of for sure.
The Red Wings used to be very good at unearthing those mid to late rounders who became important pieces of their long run amongst the league's upper echelons.
Of course it's much harder to do nowadays owing to virtually every team now employing vast scouting networks (plus the advent of technology and advanced analytics).
If the Flames stay on top of these trends, hopefully they will reap the rewards.

I thought I'd do a ranking of forward prospects purely based on NHLe in their draft year. I wanted to do this to isolate their promise when they were drafted. This ignores the way forwards have developed since then and the amount of time the various forwards have had to develop. I don't mean that development is not extremely important, but I was just curious:
The number 1 surprise was to see Philp with the number 2 best draft-year NHLe. I'm really interested to see him at camp. If Phillips were a dark horse to make the team, then so is Philp.
It looks like the European players are getting substantially underrated by NHLe. I was particularly surprised to see Nikolaev that low based on how he performed at international tournaments.

I've watched Roman a few times. His D+1 numbers aren't super impressive. He doesn't impress me very much. Neither does Ruzicka, who I consider very similar but slightly better.
I just think the Flames have so many interesting prospects who bring more potential upside to the table. Or who knows, maybe I just have an irrational dislike for Slovakians.

Great to hear from y'all of the prospects +'s & -'s.
I'm really hoping Ruzicka can put it together this year. He's got the tools, just needs the jam.
Glad the stable is still stocked with excelling late round picks too. Can't wait to see some of them in the pros.
Thanks Caged Great, for you perseverance and effort.
Always glad to help out.
It wasn't like I was sitting at my computer waiting idly by. Managed to get 13 plants put into the ground in my yard, with only 1 remaining. Looking forward to getting all of that done today also.
