Kadri used his NTC to nix a trade to the Flames involving TJ Brodie

I think it's been reported that he simply didn't want to leave Toronto, so he was going to nix any deal for any team on his no trade list.

I’ll never understand why fans get all twisted when a professional athlete exercises their contractual rights that both them and their team had once agreed upon.

How concerned is Kadri, drafted to his hometown team 10 years ago this June, that his future in Toronto is now in jeopardy?
"I’m not concerned at all," Kadri said. "This staff and this organization know what I do for my teammates. I obviously crossed the line and don’t want that to happen again, but there’s certain things I can do to fix the situation."
|
He always thought that the fans loved him no matter what, so this has gotta sting.
You're right, he didn't want to leave. His whole life is there. He has his wife, several siblings and other family, his wife's family, his friends, his church/Mosque etc, and he's always played hockey in TO, even as a kid. He simply just doesn't want to leave.
I feel really bad for him..

If you think this is all they do 82 times a year you should follow a player around for a season.
Most take one week of after finishing the season and then are right back in training for the next year.
They practice almost every day during the season with maybe a couple days of per month.
Many are troubled by flying so much and they travel/fly half the season.
The 82 games are the easy part of being an NHL player.
Most of us could only dream about getting paid what they are paid so I can see that people would be envious of them.

Good. The love for Kadri boggles me. He would have been poison on this team.

Glad Kadri nixed the trade. For whatever reason.
Now we can watch Chuckles goad him 4 or 6 times a year.

I believe Chris Johnston on 960 say his understanding that it was a 3 way trade. He is not sure who the 3rd team was.

Agree but we are talking about hockey players in their 20s...why subject yourself to a harsh hockey market when you have the choice.

Maybe Calgary wasn't getting Kadri and they can circle back and complete the deal separately?

Just me speculating but 3rd team may have been involved to retain salary on Brodie.

A lot of people close to Buffalo. That was my point. Metro or not is not a good way to measure NE USA.

It's kinda funny how the Flames could've gotten Marc Andre Fleury since he was willing to waive his NTC for Calgary at the 2017 trade deadline, and now Tre wanted Kadri but he wouldn't waive, in hindsight of course

I never said that’s all they do 82 times a season. I said that’s what they’re paid for. Fans pay ticket fees to watch 60 minutes of hockey. Broadcasters pay fees to air players playing 60 minutes of hockey so those watching will view advertising and pay for cable packages.
If I run a business I’m being paid for the service I provide to the client, not the endless list of ancillary unpaid daily tasks and travel I need to perform to remain in operation.
Players don’t earn any income from a contract during the summer, training camp or playoffs.
Remaining employable isn’t something players are paid for just as much as it is for other professions.
If players are that troubled by flying and the sludge of social media then there’s a long career in used car sales waiting for them instead.

Take it into perspective though. An average NHl player will make more more money in a year than what, 26 people? I'm basing avearge on 100 K a year, allowing for a larger tax bracket.

Plus the option of retiring 30 years younger than retirement level. I would believe it's fair to say that a team should play 100 games a year to justify any of it.

Steve simmons of toronto sun saying the trade was Kadri and Brown for Brodie and Janko. He said that Tre and coach peters phoned Kadri trying to convince him on lifting his NTC.
