But the Habs are not offering it to him now.

I don't think that's true, as the draft picks used for comp are in limbo

OK....name me someone/something that Montreal could offer that would allow Carolina to walk away from their 21 yo franchise center who is now locked in for 5 years at a reasonable price? Sure the 21M in the next year hurts, but it is not anything insurmountable for any owner in the league. If it was, he wouldnt be owning the team to begin with.
I mean...just use some logic here.
This was a stupid offer sheet....if they wanted to trade for the player then thats what they should have attempted to do. Offer up your next 20 1st rounders or a share of ownership in a brewery...or whatever. Hell...maybe they did try and trade for him and were told no...if so, that makes this effort in futility even more asinine.
This was an attempt to get the player on the cheap, hence the dollar and compensation amount that was included...and there isnt a team in the league that wouldnt have matched.
Again...it was a useless exercise at best to put forth what came out.

Then they can offer him in a week.
Either way, Point and Tampa know this is an option, so Point isn't going to be waiting into September or training camp for a contract.

If it is a 4x1st rounder compensation offer sheet they can.
The rule for when mutliple picks in the same round are required as compensation is that the n picks need to be available in the next n+1 years.
Even with the picks being used in the Aho sheet in limbo, the Habs can use the the next 4 1st rounders in the next 5 drafts as compensation.

That's assuming that Montreal is willing to give up the asset and monetary cost - since everyone knows it's going to be significantly higher - and assuming Point wants to go to Montreal.

I'm just responding to the idea that Point would be pissed at his agent.
The Habs already showed they were willing to go $8.45M. anything before $10.5M only costs two 1sts. Can Tampa really afford a $10M cap hit?

I think you are insinuating a lot from almost nothing. For all we know Point is not even interested in signing an offer sheet at the moment.

The original post I replied to was asking 'how upset would you be with your agent if you're point'. Because he and Aho have the same agent.
I'm not insinuating anything, other than if I were Point, I wouldn't be pissed at my agent because if I want to go the offersheet route with Montreal, it's still available.

OK I will use some logic. Logic tells me that very, very few players are totally untouchable. Sebastian Aho is probably not one of them. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd weren't going to get it done and if you go back and read my post, I suggested that if Montreal were serious about acquiring him, they would look to sweeten the compensation.
This was in essence an attempt to trade for Aho and the front loaded offer sheet was an element to that.
I'm not saying it would have happened, just that it was a course of action available to Montreal.
As SN said, we simply don't know what it would have taken, if anything.

Can Tampa afford to lose a 90 point player for a couple measly first round draft picks?
15M to sign Point, Erne, Paquette and a depth player or two for this year. If Point took up 10M of that it would be challenging especially with already relying on Callahan's LTIR, but it would make far more sense for them to move one of the depth forwards (Gourde, Johnson, Palat, Killorn) for cheaper replacements than to lose Point for peanuts if it came to that. And then deal with the Vasilevskiy and Sergachev contracts next year.

And to respond, it's not so much about the signing/not-signing the offer sheet, but the fact that my agent knows my position and is using that to leverage a deal for someone else, while I still don't have one.
Maybe like a real estate agent representing both you (Textcritic) and me (shadowlord). You have a buyer willing to pay money for your house, but then the agent says to the buyer that he's more likely to close the deal if he gives the money to me instead.
Of course, this is off-season isn't over yet. Perhaps in the end Point will happy with the contract he ends up with.
I only posed the question: "how does he feel?" I'm not saying he *is* pissed off at his agent, but there is a potential for a conflict of interest, IMO.

Well it did seem a bit low. Aho is a PPG centre who’s also very solid defensively. 8.5 is a bit of a bargain.
