Yeah, the chance of moving Neal dropped from 2% to 1%.

Calgary's always been quiet on the rumour front. We'll get some mild speculation a few hours before something big happens, and that's it.

Kinda knew they'd be quite as far as free agency goes, need the cap space elsewhere. Expect 2 or 3 trades this month though

The lack of flames rumours right now is increasingly troubling.

Moving Neal as a cap dump was never really an option. Look at what Toronto had to pay just to get rid of one year of Marleau.

The only way Neal moves is if a contract just as bad is coming the other way.

I would pay basically any price in terms of picks to get 5.75 million to supplement this team, right now.

It feels like the Flames have been in on everyone since Treliving took over. This offseason has been pretty much crickets but it is not surprising. They are coming off a great season and are in a lot tougher cap situation this summer when compared to last when they were big spenders in free agency.

Would love it if somehow Treliving could move Stone, even if it was for just a late pick.

As much as it PAINS me to think about it. He’s sticking around I think...our window to trade him has passed, exacerbated by the cap bring lower than expected.

At the least we'll see a depth signing or two. Even if it's just bringing Prout back

Which team would take a bottom pairing d-man for an AAV of 3.5 million? And give up something for the privilege?

If we trade him, it’s for 50% salary retained IMHO...which largely defeats the purpose

Same salary range as Brodie. It's not the first time Kreiders been linked. Also makes sense as it seems the Flames are intent to move a dmans cap space to the fw spot.
I know it's Eklund, and I know we're not short on LW, but I could see one of our D (Brodie?) for Kreider as something to work around. Likely other parts to make it work, but adds some more scoring spread throughout the lineup for the flames while moving pieces from a surplus of strength to a team with more cap room.

I agree, I think the only way he gets traded is if we retain at least as much money as we'd have on the books buying him out anyway. But at least then we could potentially get an asset back, even if it's just a 6th rounder.

But I don't see it happening, I bet he just plays out his contract as the 7-8 dman

100%. But I think he's breaching $4+ unless the offers dry up in the next few days. He's clearly a secondary target for teams, so they'll probably loop back to him in the next 24 to 48 hours. We might be one of those teams though.

If he could be moved for a coke and bag of chips, he'd already be gone.

To me it's a catch 22. The less cap space you have, the more you need your draft picks playing on elc's.

Or else it's a lot of Agostino, Lazar and Gilmour playing in your lineup. Which is OK, but it's just hard to get better that way.

For sure. They'd be better off overpaying someone on a short deal like the Devils just did with Simmonds. No need to trade for it

Any picks that would make an impact during this window have already been made.

Id rather have the cap space to sign Nyquist or zuccarello or trade for a player or sign a better third line winger or... basically do anything else other than pay Neal to eat popcorn.

Hell, don't spend the space on anyone right now and add 2 major pieces at the deadline with your 12 million in accrued space.

Zuccarello would have been a wonderful signing IMHO. A really good fit for this team
