Ohh, that'd be a good one. Smith has that old man strength and can be a total snapshow, but Rittich has lost it a few times and seems like the kind of guy that is a low key great scrapper

Calling it right now: Mike Smith is going to play more games for Edmonton than Koskinen.

I can't fault him for signing there; I'm sure he didn't have a lot of teams calling, so he probably took what he could get.

When the Flames were getting dominated in the playoffs and giving up glorious chances Smith played his best hockey of the season. So there’s a chance he might have a decent season playing behind that dumpster fire up north.

Yeah, if you play your best when the team in front of you is giving up 50+ shots... you should probably go play for the Oilers.

Smith will have a bad statistical season next year, regardless of how well he plays.

This has disaster written all over it.

It would have made me a bit nervous bringing Smitty back. Intriguing goaltender and a cool dude, but his penchant for poor stretches, heinous goals, and what seemed like the tendency to tweak a hamstring or rupture a spleen on every second save, makes me not worry about this too much.

He's got six Gios in front of him, he'll do great.

They'll probably stay in Calgary...

That being said, good for him for continuing his career, but if he was having fits behind the Calgary defence hes going to be getting hit with more rubber than a disreputable hooker.

He is going to have a fit behind that defence.

At least we know his secret weakness.....shoot the puck directly at him. Aim for the crest.

I see Oilers fans claiming that Mike Smith’s disappointing first half last season was a result of his recovery from injuries, and now that he is fully healed he will return to 2017-18 form.

What injuries did poor Smith struggle through last year?

Smith had a much better second part of season and playoffs for CGY. I did not harbour the same animosity towards him as other posters on here did.

I wouldn't be surprised if Smith starts out relatively well. He - in his prime - was the kind of goalie who could mask a bad defence. The problem for the Oilers is that they are going to blow out his groin by mid-November via overwork and be stuck with Koskinen and a Le Golie for most of the season anyway.

This is hilarious. Other than Brian Elliott I can't think of another goalie I'd be happier with in Edmonton.

Yeah Smith has proven he plays better under siege but he is also old and breaking down and can't play at that level for long. Just look at the playoffs, he had started turning back into a pumpkin by game 5. Even the year before he looked totally broken and useless during the 2nd half after helping to carry the team in the first half.

Good luck Oilers, you are going to need it.

Despite that, he still lost 4 out of 5 games.

His individual stats will likely improve from last season, while his win-loss record takes a big hit.
