I imagine the thinking here is that it is time for the Flames to move on from 37-year-old Mike Smith. I think he could still play another year or two, but he sure as hell is not the missing piece in Edmonton.

No Koskinen has a weak glove as well, especially from a distance which looks really bad.
But Talbot seems to have the propensity to drop down really early and give up goals upstairs, especially on his glove side. Also, for whatever reason, he tends to give up goals early on in games which sort of deflates his club. I wouldn’t hate signing him, but it better be for 1 year and hopefully Sigalet can help fix some of his deficiencies.
Smith wouldn’t be the answer for the Oilers, but he’d definitely help hide their terrible breakouts. Even Chiarelli himself admitted that the backend he had built wasn’t great at moving the puck, so Smith helping McDavid and co out with his stretch passes isn’t something I want to see.

That’s a good point, and it would make some sense if the Oilers are content to enter the season with that blue line.
Talbot looks like a goalie with no confidence. I don’t recall his glove hand as being a significant issue last year, but everything you describe fits the MO, and these are also things that are new issues since Talbot joined the Oilers. It is extremely difficult to get a good read on players (goalies especially) in Edmonton.

Sounds a lot like every goalie who lets a goal pass over his shoulder. The idiot armchair goalie coaches diagnose them with going down too early

Are you serious? The other poster is providing his perspective on a hockey forum which you may or may not agree with.
Has no one taught you how to be respectful, who raised you?

I'd be wary of attributing too much weight to anything Talbot accomplished or lack thereof with the Oilers.
They're just so bad everything is an outlier.

And those would be those who disagree with what you think...as you are all knowing more than others do i assume...yes?
And in doing so you are calling other posters idiots.

Nah. I’m not talking about specific individuals.
Here is what you do. Go to any game thread where a goalie has let in a shot in that unstoppable place by his ears. Look for the bellyaching posters that say the goalie went down early. They are everywhere.
That’s all
