Not to mention that it could elevate Tkachuk even more.

Backlund is a fine player, but he is probably a limiting factor with Tkachuk.

Get'r done Tre!... Trade for Kadri, resign Tkachuk, and sign Ferland. Thats a powerful second line who can all light up the lamp.

Ah, well, we’ll see then. I imagine if we do land Zuccarello it’ll be for too much money and too much term anyways, it always is in Buffalo.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - Kadri - Dube
Bennett - Backlund - Neal
Mangiapane - Jankowski - Ryan
Hathaway
Czarnik

Giordano - Andersson
Hanifin - Hamonic
Valimaki - Stone
Kylington (or sign UFA and have him on the farm)

Rittich
Talbot

This is assuming Brodie traded for Kadri and Frolik traded for picks. I think this gives the Flames great depth at centre and left wing. An emphasis of my thinking was to have two fast skaters on each line.

I would switch Janko with Ryan as Ryan is better on the draw and a better centre and switch Dube and the bread eater.

You also apparently forgot the salary cap.

Not that it will happen, but that lineup isnt over the cap. Once Tkachuk is done they may only have about a million in space, but that would be workable.

Of course Lindholm would blast through it when added though. But keep him and leave Nylander where he is and it works well.

Interesting that it has been real quiet around Simmonds, Ferland, and Dzingel.

Maybe asking too much and teams hoping prices and term will drop?

Ryan Rishaug @TSNRyanRishaug
Sounds like Connolly is not likely to land in a Edmonton. Will be interesting to see who else they target with some extra cap space after the Sekera buyout.

I hope to god Edmonton is clearing room for a big offer to Wayne Simmonds. Maybe they bring Pat Maroon back on a big long-term deal?

Sounds like the Oilers are going back to Chiasson

Ryan Rishaug @TSNRyanRishaug
If Connolly not likely to land in Edmonton, may put a focus back on Chiasson deal, depending on who else they feel they may be able to land. Nyquist would be more $ than Connolly, perhaps too much.

Yes why not get rid of a decent defenseman to sign a PDO-driven winger who scored like three goals down the stretch? That's practically guaranteed to work!

Connolly is a smart man. We should find a way to get him.

Just my own thoughts, but i dont think Stone was ever going anywhere. I believe BT sees him as the 3rd pairing RD (and again has some snarl which the club needs) and deals TJ with Andersson sliding into that role.

Kadri's production went down last year because he wa the 3rd centre. He won't displace Monahan. Does he take Backlund's place and icetime as 2nd line, shutdown centre? If so, the Flames are paying $5M+ per year to Backlund to play 3rd line minutes.

Calgary needs scoring on RW a lot more than another C, IMO. They should use Brodie (or whatever assets would be traded) to address that problem.
